Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Stratosphere: Multiplayer Defense Coming to iPad January 2013 Hey everyone, we're a new indie developer from Vancouver, Canada, and Stratosphere is the result of two years of work to bring competitive tower defense to the iPad! Two players each take a side of the iPad, and balance between building defensive towers and sending enemies at their opponent. We created Stratosphere because we think the iPad is a great device to combine the fun of sitting around a board game with the interactive, real-time craziness made possible by video games. It's also a whole new take on the tower defense genre, where the player doesn't just sit by and wait for waves of enemies to approach his or her towers. Players must also make strategic decisions about sending enemies to overwhelm their opponent while at the same time ensuring that their defenses are strong enough to repel what is being sent at them. We found that just like many other genres, tower defense is far more fun played against a real human rather than just computer controlled waves, so with that in mind we designed Stratosphere from the ground up for the iPad with multiplayer as the focus. Stratosphere is easy to pick up and play, but also has many deeper layers of strategy to discover and master as players uncover the stengths and weaknesses of each race, unique attributes of each level, and learn to balance their spending between sending enemies and building defensive towers. For those looking to go it alone, Stratosphere also includes a singleplayer mode to learn the ropes, complete missions, unlock new levels and bonus content, and take on three increasingly difficult Stratobots. Highlights: Multiplayer, competitive tower defense playable by two players on a single iPad. Three alien races, each with their own unique towers to master. Unlockable modifiers that can be combined to create 500+ unique ways to play. Zero load screens. Singleplayer mode with missions to complete and three increasingly difficult Stratobots to take on. Stratosphere is coming to iPad later this month, and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you! We'd love to hear what you think so far, and you can find more information about Stratosphere on our website, PixileStudios.com, our Facebook page, or @PixileStudios on Twitter.
We're definitely considering an iPod/iPhone version, and we have some ideas how to do it, but this version of Stratosphere was designed specifically for the big screen of the iPad for awesome same-device multiplayer. So for now, it's iPad only, but if it does well on iPad, we'll definitely consider bringing it to the smaller screens too!
This looks exciting! And way to go to fill in the hole that fieldrunners 2 left out, since there was no multiplayer in the new version, . instabuy!
I agree. I'll be buying this day one. This game looks to be a fantastic way to push the TD genre forward.
@RomeSweetHome & @playpunk: Thanks for your comments guys, we hope you will indeed enjoy it once it's out. The testers we've had have really enjoyed the human vs human multiplayer, so it'll be awesome if it catches on
It's coming very soon now! As long as nothing unexpected comes up Stratosphere will be landing before the end of the month. The experience is designed around competitive multiplayer, but yep there is definitely lots to play through in singleplayer as well. In Lonely mode you'll play against three increasingly challenging Stratobots, while completing 60+ missions, and unlocking new levels and modifiers. And we also have Game Center leaderboards for the endless mode that you unlock after you beat singleplayer. The modifiers you unlock can also be combined with each other to create 500+ unique ways of playing. Some of the cooler ones include Vampire Lives where you steal lives from each other as you play, Clone Babies where each enemy that dies spawns two baby creatures that you also have to kill, and Banana Mayhem that transforms all the characters into bouncing bananas and has its own theme song.
Yep, it's multiplayer tower defense . Rather than just waiting for enemies to walk towards your towers, you send enemies at each other while also building defensive towers on your side of the iPad.
It'll be $1.99 and we have an official launch date now too! Stratosphere will be on the App Store this Thursday, the 31st. Excited for everyone to be able to play it soon! When it launches we'll post a new thread over in iPad and iPad mini games.
