When i was young in the 80's with the rise of 8 bit computers i didnt know any female gamers, the girls i knew liked perhaps one game and that was it. Same for when i had the first Gameboy, the girls i knew loved Tetris and that was that.
I think Tomb Raider coming out in the 90's was a huge moment as it was the first female 'lead character' in a big blockbuster computer game. I honestly knew a lot more female gamers after Tomb Raider.
I go to a few retro shows in the UK and theres probably a 75/25 split in favour of men. I think theres more female gamers due to the Wii which has attracted a new crowd and i know a fair few play puzzle games on iOS.
Either way its great to have more people into iOS gaming
