Pretty sure it's just a totem like the ones you use to pick a difficulty in Minigore. Can't remember if it was always there or not but I don't think it is anything significant at this point.
It showed up in this one, i saved every pic since night 42 or so. Dont think it's the difficulty totem. this one has green glowing eyes, and blood on its chest/coming out of its eyes if you look closely.

It's been updated with "these." After all these days/months/years of waiting. Then possibly the re-added Metusalem will say "Released."
