Rank these in order of preference: TowerDefence PointnClick Platformer RPG Roguelike Retro MoBA Empire-building Match 3 Racer Endless Runner Run n Gun Arcade Basketball Shoot the hoop game Soccer game CCG 4x game Dig games Shoot em up Idle clicker First Person Shooter Music/Rhythm games Management Sims(Kairosoft etc) Fishing game (Any other genre I may have missed)
I'll list my top 3 genres as being:- Hex wargames Interactive fiction Flight sims Being a compulsive gamer I'll have played examples of the other listed genres, but not enough to put them in any particular order.
Phew. That's quite a list. The favourites are pretty obvious to me, and there are some I've no idea about (Dig games?), but these are roughly my favourite genres, in rough order. Haven't included retro, as it completely depends on the genre. RPGs Arcade/Adventure/ARPG/Football (meaning soccer, and including arcade and management sims) Platform//Tennis games/Beat 'em ups/Point and click Shooters (top-down, twinstick, FPS and run'n'gun included)/Strategy (including 4x games) Roguelikes Then there's a dropoff, and after a while we get: Puzzle Other sports games (eg NFL or ice hockey) Interactive fiction Rhythm games Runners Drop-off again... Driving games - has to be pretty damned good to interest me, but not against them per se Match-3s - as above Idle clickers - as above Don't play CCGs or anything MMO, so can't include them.
I love story driven games the most. My top picks (no order): Interactive fiction Point and click adventure RPGs Puzzles Platformers What I like the least MMO or social games. Because I feel I need to play and I love gaming on my own pace. Strategy - because I suck at it. Roguelikes - I like the feeling of progression, which there isn't here in most cases. Match 3.
