Minos Legacy - Tower Defense (by Apptales Development)


Hey guys,

we are Apptales, a small independent developer for games and edutainment applications for mobile platforms. We‘re glad to present you our current project and debut title Minos‘ Legacy, a new awesome tower defense game for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad (Universal App). At the moment the project is still at alpha status and our plan is to release the game in the beginning of 2014. However, we already have some stuff which we want to show you. As the project goes on we‘ll deliver further content, so you are always up-to-date.

Game Information
First of all, Minos‘ Legacy is a mazing tower defense game, so you have no fixed paths as in many other tower defense games. That means you have to define the path of the creeps by yourself. Furthermore it‘s a game from a 2.5D perspective, sometimes also called as pseudo-3D. Although Minos‘ Legacy is in some aspects and features similar to other games like Kingdom Rush or Fieldrunners (because we love those games), it will have a very own and unique style. That affects the art as well as the players experience.

Setting & Story
For the setting of Minos‘ Legacy we have chosen the greek mythology. With all its famous gods, heroes and creatures and not to forget with all these epic stories and myths it offers us the perfect playground for a tower defense game. In our campaign mode you take the role of a commander who is instructed by the olympian gods to rescue Persephone who was kidnapped by the followers of Hades, god of the Underworld. On the march against Hades‘ realm you‘ll be attacked by countless creatures, whether they are fundamentally evil or cursed by Hades. With godly assistance it is on you to hold back these dark armies.

Gameplay
One of the most important things in Minos‘ Legacy is the creation of the paths. As we use a grid of hexagons in our game (similar to Spice Bandits) the tactical aspect, concerning the path building, is more interesting as it were if we use square tiles. As in many other tower defense games in Minos‘ Legacy are also a few flying enemy types, for example gryphons and harpies. But beyond that, we will have a new and unique enemy type, intelligent creatures. They will not take the shortest path to their goal, because they are so clever that they take instead the path which promise the lowest damage to them. So you have to take special care of them.

Contrary to other tower defense games the upgrading of the towers won‘t be linear but with the help of a talent tree for upgrades. That tree is supposed to provide more flexibility to you. So you have always different possibilities to react on certain circumstances. In Minos‘ Legacy there will be three different base types of towers, one which is focused on physical damage, one on magical and one on area damage. You can specialize each of this base towers to your own demand.

It looks good. But we must wait until beginning of 2014, it's too long...

I've read the main story of the game, it is used many Gods from Olympus. Do you use special skills of them?

Thanks. As i wrote we are a very small team and additionaly Minos Legacy is also a very ambitious project. Game development needs some time and in our case much more work has to be done. It is our goal to deliver high quality content, but on the other side we try our best to get the game out as early as possible .

Yes, we do. Each base tower type is related to a certain city of the ancient greece. In Addition each of this cities has its own god as a protector. Many talents from the skill trees of the towers refers to them. Furthermore the special abilites have also a divine origin.
