This has probably been asked and answered, but I can find a thread on it.

Is there an iPhone space equivalent for sites like vgcharts.com that report sales numbers?

If there isn't how do developers judge sales of competing games (analytics covers their own games)?

No such beast. Best you can get is to look at the top grossing charts on the store. But getting actual sales numbers on a large scale, that's never going to happen.

The closest thing you can find is:
    http://xyologic.com/

But it's estimations. It's still better than nothing.

I wouldn't put too much faith in that site. None of their stats for any of my games are even close to correct.

appannie is (was?) selling such extrapolated sales metrics based on their not small userbase of devs who use their services.. it was pretty expensive (around 12k € if i recall right) so more aimed at bigger companies

but there are no free reliable sales data avaiable.. afaik

Yeah, I was looking for the DAU and ARPU of certain apps. Googling didn't return any data.
    appdata.com doesn't have what I'm looking for :(
