I want to start devolping games for the iPhone/iPod but I dont know what software to get(preferbly free-low cost), what would be a good kind of first game to make, and what to name my dev company (im thinking Quantum Ninja Games). If any of the expirenced devs want to help this poor lost n00b, than please post below. Your comments of wisdom are greatly welcomed. ------------------------------------ Currently Playing: Duke 3D, Minigore Currently Wanting: MC:Sandstorm, Livefire Currently Testing: Underworlds 1.2 update
GameSalad Codeless drag and drop app. You just need to know some basic programming logic (easily learnable). I'm using it to develop my announced game Lunar Smoke (in my sig) and Deflection, which I'm doing whenever I get tired of it. Pretty helpful (but still small) community in the forums.
It is possible to get most of the code done on a PC, but you're sacrificing a lot of the testing features while doing so, and getting the game on the Mac is a pain, especially for someone that's just starting out, so yeah... get a Mac
Darn. Im poor... so yeah. I dont know how i could get one. I'M 14 AND JOBLESS!!! oh well, another one of my devolper dreams crushed by the evil software requirment market. at least i have beta testing...
It doesn't mean you have to give up on game development. Learn how to code, or get an understanding of building sprits. Once you have a basic knowledge of how to build a game it's not that hard to figure out how to develop for the iPhone. I would start with a program like The Torque Game Builder: http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-2d If you learn how to make games on the PC and save up to get a mac, you will already be ahead of the curve when you start learning how develop for the iPhone. And yeah, OK, I did it. I dropped PC advise on a Mac forum, LOL
Dude, IT IS $250.00!!!!!!! I SAID FREE - LOW COST!!! Dont worry i forgive you but dont give me advice that costs $250!!!
If you're short on money I don't think splashing $100/250 on Torque is really the best way to go. I have no idea of your knowledge/experience in programming, if you're a complete beginner my suggestion would be to try your hand on some java programming. If you do have some experience and know you will proceed down the iPhone-route later on you could start to learn Objective-C. You'll be able to find a free compiler with some googling...
Well you could get a start, there is a 30 Day free demo. You can learn a lot in a month if your motivated.
Other way if you know C is try coding in OGRE. Recently is porting to iPhone and you can make games. OGRE is Free!
