Sucks to see this go free. It's a great arcade styled shooter that has a bit of depth the more you play and understand the game. I have no regrets having bought it, and actually wish it had an IAP so I could support the dev even more... But it's one of very few hitting the store these days that's completely devoid of extra income after the original purchase. =o/ Connector Well-Known Member May 6, 2012 15,512 1 0 In the Chatroom http://thechatroom.freeforums.net/ #3 Connector, Sep 7, 2013 Wow, that went free super super fast. Kinda a shame, cause this is a good game, but guess sales weren't going it's way. Sorry to the people that I just got to buy it recently, but it is a good game, I sure hope this isn't adding ads or going freemium. Too bad the appstore is coming down to this and games just going free so fast, but this game is a really good game. The Spike Dislike games were always among my favorite retro-ish games and this one earns high marks as well. It is really sad how there's so many crap games out there that make buttloads of money and an indie dev with talent can't get noticed. Bought this after seeing it got some GoTW votes from people I trust and then realized it was by the same Dev as Spike Dislike. You know what. I just realized I don't have Sheep Goes Left. I've bought your games Spike Dislike and Sheep go Left when they came out. BlastTrax is an incredibly talented effort and as soon as I started playing I knew this is a keeper. I like even on easy mode how as you progress the intensity of battle ramps up and so does the strategy aspect come into play. Controls and graphics are excellent too. Can't wait to see how intense the tougher modes are...should be a blast....trax! Breinstein Well-Known Member Sep 27, 2012 527 5 18 The Netherlands #13 Breinstein, Sep 8, 2013 Can't believe the sales are so bad. I really like this game, brought back soms good memories from eighties ( my top and favoriet gaming years) . I ammonia to buy sheep Goes left to show the dev some extra support. Hard some good T things about that game. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #14 nightc1, Sep 8, 2013 I gave this some time and I've got a few criticisms. 1. Controls are somewhat frustrating to use. I've manage to do ok in the highscore charts but half the battle is the controls. I didn't find any alternate controls to try. 2. Speaking of controls, the movement of the ship is pretty limited. There doesn't appear to be anything but moving forward and turning left or right. So it's more like driving a car than a spaceship. Strafing would be nice. The fine movement required to go slower is also hard to dial into on the small screen. 3. Bugs! If you go into GC from the link in te game and then return you'll be on the credits screen. Sometimes it'll crash the game if you touch the wrong place trying to figure out how to get out of these unintitive screens. 4. Highscore bugs. I won't say how publicly, but there's a way to have an everlasting game and this as big a score as you want. If the dev is interested how, he can Pm me. When there are holes like this in a highscore game though it breaks the purpose I have to play. 5. One nitpick. There's no music soundtrack. Maybe that's intentional? Capricornman Well-Known Member Dec 8, 2011 2,993 0 0 #15 Capricornman, Sep 8, 2013 Yes the more I play I can see what you're meaning about struggling with the controls...sometimes I sense I'm struggling and all of a sudden my thumb is in the middle of the screen. I actually don't mind there's no music but it wouldn't hurt to have something! Very good game though Jayenkai Well-Known Member Jan 17, 2011 254 0 16 Erm... Bum! I've tweaked them a little for the next release, and included an option for a twin-stick mode, but also tried to keep things balanced.. Complex! Update should arrive by the end of the month. Lots to add! 2. Yes, it is a bit like a car on a track, isn't it!? Almost like that was the original plan!! Linkage 3. That's a "known bug" with the language I'm using. It's slightly annoying, but thankfully it only ever happens at that one place, and I try my hardest to ensure that all my games reload in an instant. I need to update and tweak my language tools, and hopefully the language developers have sorted it, but .. It's one of those annoying bugs that only seems to pop up once the final version's in the AppStore! Stupid thing doesn't seem to happen when using the test-edition. Grrr! SpikeDislike2, Hoppy Bobby and this all have this bug. It's an occasional glitch, and hopefully I can fix it in the future. Sorry for any issues!! 4. Yep, found a couple myself, too. PM me, and we'll compare possible cheats 5. Although I do like to make music, I don't currently have a nice working way of getting small music into my games. It'd be great to have an oldskool mod player working, but the language I'm using allows for so many different system targets that it makes mod playing a tricky thing to do. My only real option is to use mp3s or OGG files for music, and those tend to get kinda big after a while. Add just a simple Titlescreen tune and a single ingame piece of music, and you've got about 3Mb added on to your game, and those are incredibly repetitive! For BlastTrax I'd need a pretty large soundtrack, and that takes huge amounts of data. Sheep Goes Left has a proper soundtrack, and is over 50Mb! Eek!! Instead, I opt to leave it out. You have an iDevice, and I ensure all my games play nicely with any and all background music, so choose your favourite soundtrack, and get blastin'! nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #17 nightc1, Sep 8, 2013 Sent a pm about the highscore bug. All in all its not a bad game, but its not as fun to me as say a full screen retro styled shooter since the path is not very wide and there's little enemy variety. Jayenkai Well-Known Member Jan 17, 2011 254 0 16 Erm... Bum! Bolton, England Http://AGameAWeek.com #18 Jayenkai, Sep 8, 2013 The track width was a tricky thing to get right, due to the differences in device resolutions, and orientations. On iPhone5, especially, there's not an awful amount of width to play with.. If it's any consolation, it used to be half as wide!! As for this vs a classic Galaxians/space invaders. Yeah, I love those, too. You can't beat a well made classic space shooter. Warblade is a crackin' example. Love that game! This is simply another example of my AGameAWeek ethos. Take something, tweak it, and see if it's good! Because when you're doing things at a rate of AGameAWeek, you tend to have the ability to throw away bad ideas. But you'll never truely know what's a good or bad idea until you dare to try it. Sometimes the craziest ideas, the ones you think will never work, do indeed seem to be much more playable than you'd imagine. Hoppy Bobby (free in the AppStore) is another great example of this. Most developers would reject such a stupid and simple idea, but I gave it a whirl, and the result was a nice playable game. As AGameAWeek continues, I've stumbled upon a fair number of these, and whenever I do, I tend to bulk them up and do proper iOS releases. It makes for a curiously odd mix of games, but they're all nicely playable, and should keep you entertained for a few minutes at a time! Jayenkai Well-Known Member Jan 17, 2011 254 0 16 Erm... Bum!
