I took the advice here and played with only one Investigator (Jenny). It's a great hint, because you die in two turns or less and then you can go play a strategy game like Neuroshima Hex!
You're wrong.

Two turns?? You'd have to be making some really bad decisions for that to happen. The only way to die in two turns would be to do a scenario twice (or two separate ones once each) that had a penalty of at least two health or sanity for losing with a character that had only 4 in that stat. There is a definite strategy to picking which scenes you play, what items you use, which character you play, and which dice to keep and which to reroll. Yes there is a fair amount of luck involved too, but it's definitely not all luck.
And it's most certainly not unwinnable. I've beaten every elder except the most recent expansion, some of them more than once.

(I scanned a few pages of the thread, and saw Necronomicon listed, but I'm not sold based on the app store description.)
Actually there is a very similar game called phantom leader. It's not similar in theme, but it is similar in gameplay. It's a strategic solo dice roller set in the air war of Vietnam. Beware it's pricey and it's pretty barebones on visuals, but it's more fun IMO and more strategic IMO.

Phantom Leader also seems more complicated, just watch a Youtube video of it then watch Wheaton and gang play Elder Signs on Tabletop. You will "get" Elder Sign's mechanics instantly, but Phantom Leader is more obfuscated...

As for similar theme, just search for "Cthulhu" in App Store and AppShopper. The usual suspects will turn up.
