Nope. It defeats the purpose of the game/fun if you bought currency actually.

There's a bit of a grind no doubt, but it's fun because the random equipment loot you pick up from battles gives you incentive to continue grinding not only for gold. And to be clear, the equipment you pick up are all random, so they're all unique in stats.

Somehow I totally missed this one. I had a lot of fun with Tower of Fortune.
How do the story elements play out? Do you get a message/story update after so many kills, or are there actual areas to explore?

There is no real story except the beginning and end. Apparently there are multiple endings though. There aren't any areas, progression consists of building and upgrading ships.

Avoid this one: no story at all, boring gameplay...

So sad, reading the description I thought of EVAngelion, but this is a complete waste of time...
