    Hi TouchArcade!

We are MixedBag, a little italian indie developer that is currently working on the massive action adventure game for iOS forma.8.
Meanwhile, since forma.8 is a really big project, and since we are nuts and decided to work on another game to 'chill out', we've just released Futuridium EP, a retro inspired 3d shoot'em up on PC/Mac, with a iOS version coming out on july 18!

    What is Futuridium EP?
It's a frantic, fast, incredibly hard, action packed, retro looking, flat shaded with glitchy graphic effects 3d shoot'em up. Inspired by the 80s' arcade and euro shoot'em up scene, with a modern twist and a 11 tracks, 45 minutes original soundtrack.
Basically, this (PC/Mac video, iOS coming soon!):

    video

Want to try it on PC/Mac? It's totally free, just grab them from the official website:

    So:
You are a lone starship pilot who get lost in a dimensional loop just before a battle: with a limited and constantly depleting energy bar your only hope is to fly as fast as possible over enormous space dreadnoughts and destroy all the cyan power cubes, replenishing your energy tank and revealing the ship’s power core, which must be destroyed to move to the next ship.

    - No special powers, no bonuses: only the player reflexes count. Your ship, your lasers, your ability!
    - You can stop and turn your ship 180° at any time, just pressing a button!
    - No speed control: you always fly as fast as possible...

    Game features:
    - 13 levels
    - 11 original music tracks, for a 45 minutes original soundtrack. You can skip them in games like a jukebox.
    - A new energy based gameplay mechanic
    - 5 different gameplay speed, unlockable finishing the game. The game can get crazy fast...
    - 4 different graphic skins
    - Peculiar graphic style, full of colours and glithy full screen special effects
    - Full GameCenter support, with online leaderboards and achievements
    - A credit system: destroy cubes to get in game credits to continue and other goodies
    - Cool easter eggs!

For the iOS version we've rebalanced the difficulty curve, added a new gameplay mode, and tweaked the touch controls to give the best gameplay experience possible on mobile.

    iOS release
    Release date: july 18.
Platforms: iPad 2+/iPhone 4+/iPod touch 5th gen. iPod touch 4th gen is -not- supported. Full retina support.
    Price: 1.99 US$/1.99€/200¥/1.49£

Screenshots time (all the screens are from the iOS version of the game):

Will it be controlled similar to ARC Squadron? :D

    Don't worry, no tilt! :D

It's all touch, you just move your finger on the left half of the screen to move, like an invisible joypad. It's very fast and very precise, although it requires a bit of practice.

Sounds fantastic! One game i can think of with really good invisible stick controls is Verticus. Im sure you already have the controls working the way you want it to be, but if you need a basis, Verticus is a good one.

    Cheers! This looks really good.

    Thanks!

About the controls: we've done the best to nail them at the first try, since the game is really fast paced we needed very responsive controls. They requires only minimal finger moves (so no fingers all over the screen), and they are really fast.

They definitely work a lot better than playing with a keyboard, and are only a bit shy of performing as well as the DualShock 3 we are using for playing the game on PC/Mac.

Nevertheless, we'll hear back any complaint and suggestion and try to do the best for improving them, if it'll be the case. ;)

    Hidden Gem!

I tryed it some minutes and its a really gem! The graphics are sweet with a nice kind of retro-falvour and the dubstep-something-soundtrack is killer and pushes the action!

It is levelbased. The ship flys automaticly, you have to steer with a virtual pad. Tilt-Control isnt available - but would be a good option. One of the rare game where I wish there were tilt-controls!

At the end it is a really good game for oldschool arcade gamers and it deserves more attention! Go and buy :D:D

Wow, this looks like a very nice surprise on an otherwise sleepy release week. Can't wait to try it out, and soon! :)

    Hi Tobi!
Thanks for trying out the game!

We experimented with tilt controls, we've got them fully implemented, but we decided to scrap them since they really didn't worked as intended on Futuridium. The game requires total precision and very fast movements, and as hard as we tried we were not able to find the right balance to make tilt enjoyable enough.

However, we'll keep our attention on all the feedbacks after the relase, and we'll react accordingly. ;)
