I'm keeping an updated list of RPGs that are at least half-decent. I even gave links to the appstore, the game's thread, and its review. If you've got any to add, bring it on! Even if it's just got an RPG element, that's fine, I'll add it to the list below. Happy RPG hunting! The list considers an RPG to be a decent storyline, characters that evolve, and some dialogue. If the game is completely narrated and/or the player has no choice where the story goes, then it might not be an RPG. Should have experience, currency, weapons and armor. New! Neat idea, but I have a couple recommendations. Beneath a Steel Sky really isn't and RPG, and semiRPG looks like one of the thousands of MMOs already out there. You should define what should be considered an RPG, or you'll have thousands that belong in the list. Couple you've missed that I think are RPGs: Cavern Defender Chronicles Doom 2 RPG Dungeon Hunter Golvellius Hybrid Necromancer Rising All of the expansions to The Quest, along with the original Rogue Touch Sword of Fargoal Vay Wolfenstein RPG
Thanks for putting that on your list because I somehow missed that! I'm going to buy it right now in fact because of the very positive reviews.
I agree with most everything. I haven't played semiRPG but it looked kinda fun and I own it. I'll check it out before I take it off. Hybrid is seriously not something I consider an RPG. More like button masher. I own that too so maybe I'll play it a bit before I put it on. Golvellius got such bad ratings, are you sure it's worth even mentioning? I've got Quest Gold on there. I don't really consider Rogue games as RPG, they might not stay on the list long, but I'm not sure yet. yup! alphabetical. it's easier to know if I've got something or not and so it's easier for people not to tell me something that's already on the list. true, I'll have to dilute it down a bit. I'm going to start trimming at 50. I know right? That's why I wanted this list. I can't keep getting suggested Zenonia or Across Age. I want to find those treasures.
yeah, if the idea doesn't bomb, for each game I'm going to put one link to its thread and one link to a toucharcade review if there is one.
I mean't based on which you prefer. For instance, I have a small interest in a game that has this in it:
@RttaM: Oh, nah. There's a lot of threads out there that give opinions. I just want a reference point for anyone doing RPG searching. @TheFamousEccles: Hey, I just checked out your link in your signature. Apparently you did the same thing for point-and-click. awesome. I'm an RPG guy though. I love a story, characters that evolve over time, action that has more to do with thinking than button-mashing, and bosses. Games without bosses are so missing a good element.
Truth be told, I've spent a lot more time on RPGs (specifically turn-based) than on point & click games, but there are considerably more RPGs. I'm not a fan of button-mashing, and basically any ARPG. I thought I'd name what I thought were RPGs, not just ones I like. Oh, by the way, P&C games have RPGs licked in the story department.
GoF doesn't really have that many RPG elements besides upgrading different parts of your ships. No leveling up, no classes, no EXP, just linear gameplay that's basically mission after mission. I'd classify it as a relatively deep arcade shooter, but not an RPG.
I wasn't even going to list it because I knew it wasn't in depth like the other two games but since it did have "RPG elements", I threw it out there anyway.. Take it out if you want OP.
I actually saw that problem when I looked at the app description. BUT, I'm still placing suggested games with RPG elements at the bottom of the main post because they might still float someone's boat. I'm sure after someone finishes all the games on the list, it's time to go for the "RPG elements"!
iNethack deserves to be on the list. And if you're not sure about it, you can try it for yourself because it's free.
