In my opinion, this book is slightly better than volume 4 (which I thought was pretty damn good)! The story and the overall gameplay is still solid, and well worth a dollar! Please note that you do not need to have read any of the previous gamebooks in order to read and play this. The critically acclaimed series of newly imagined interactive fantasy gamebooks puts you, the reader, in control of the story! Along with a realistic dice-based battle system to fight creatures, an epic tale and beautiful artwork, Catacombs of the Undercity will give you many hours of gamebook adventuring! "Captured by one of Orlandes City’s most infamous brotherhoods, the Red Hand Guild, you are thrown to the mercy of the subterranean world deep beneath the streets of the great capital. Wading through the sewers and other dark menacing places, your goal is to reach Undercity, the City beneath the City! Only there can you find the help you need to escape this underground horror and bring down the dark brotherhood from within." "My favourite examples so far though are the iPad and iPhone-compatible Gamebook Adventures, a series of lovingly crafted and extremely well-written interactive fantasy novels. It's surprisingly engrossing stuff, the economically written narrative packing in masses of detail, while rattling out a pacey, involving story." - The Guardian "Catacombs of the Undercity is the best entry into the Orlandes series I’ve played yet. It’s exciting, atmospheric and even amusing at times, plus there are plenty more beasties to battle too." - iPhoneFreak (4/5) Gamebook Adventures 5: Catacombs of the Undercity is the fifth in a series of newly written adventure gamebooks for the iPhone, iPod Touch and now beautifully realised for the iPad! We are completely original and not simply a re-print of old gamebooks. •Includes all the interactive reading and gameplay features found in An Assassin in Orlandes, The Siege of the Necromancer, Slaves of Rema and Revenant Rising. •Read the story and dictate the direction of the story! Options based on who you have met, where you have visited and what you have found. •Written by Andrew Wright, Gamebook Adventures 5 takes you on an swashbuckling quest from the sewers of Orlandes City to the subterranean metropolis of Undercity. •Pirkka Harvala, the popular illustrator from An Assassin in Orlandes, is back! His beautiful illustrations bring to life the denizens of this strange underworld. •Battle an array of creatures from acid ghouls to spirit demons and find ways to get your revenge against the Red Hand Guild. •Hire mercenaries to aid you in your quest! •Unique battle system using realistic 3D dice which can be rolled by shaking your iDevice. •Three difficulty levels: Classic, Bookworm and Novice. •Lots of achievements to collect and artwork to find throughout the book. These are placed on your achievement wall. •Illustrations can be viewed full screen by simply tapping on them in the book and we have higher resolution artwork for iPhone 4 and iPad users. •New widgets at the bottom of each page access direct to your inventory, settings and main menu making easier than ever to find your way around the gamebook. •An update to the constantly changing world map and gazetteer, Orlandes Uncovered. This now includes Rema and Drymar. •Dramatic soundtrack composed by our Freeplay Independent Games Awards Finalist, Adrian Watkins. If you are familiar with the Choose You Own Adventure, Fighting Fantasy, Sorcery, Lone Wolf or Grail Quest series then Gamebook Adventures will really appeal to you. Our aim is to give those nostalgic readers of old something new and fresh, and bring a new exciting experience to those unfamiliar with gamebooks. If you enjoy fantasy RPGs or adventure games then this is for you! I took the 'novice' difficulty level so I didn't really die a lot. My only problem was - like you said - I was curious how the other paths turned out, and it really sucked we could only have a max. of 10 bookmarks . So yeah, I couldn't really explore as much as I would've liked to. Either way, I'm pretty sure you'll love it when you get that 'ultimate' ending . Keep at it! And haha, why would you touch the damn statue on purpose?! You masochist you! But yeah, if you're actually having fun with it, snag this book while the offer lasts man! I'd say that 3 or 7 was the easiest. They're pretty good. I think my favourite though (After GA 4) is the upcoming Infinite Universe. All I heard was that it's going to be a sci-fi book next time. Which should be cool for a change of setting. Ive enjoyed all 7 books so far, so I can't see them making a bad book. Validuser Well-Known Member Jan 4, 2012 56 0 6 #12 Validuser, Jan 21, 2012 Sounds sweet. I've only read 4 and 5 so far, and was wondering if I should buy the first 4? Are the gameplay mechanics any different? I heard they made some improvements as they went along, and apparently the 7th one has the best art and gameplay mechanics?
