id Software has released Wolfenstein-3D for the iPhone, offering a mobile version of their original World War II first-person shooter. The 10 MB download is available on id Software's FTP server, and here are the release notes, which includes info about the history of this release. There are further details in this included document on iPhone development written by John Carmack with extensive details, concluding saying: "I'm going back to Rage for a while, but I do expect Classic Doom to come fairly soon for the iPhone." Frans, who dug up this scoop, was inspired to momentarily come out of retirement and post a mirror on Gamers.org. Source: http://www.bluesnews.com/
Not out. Searched Wolf-3D, Wolf3d, Wolfenstein-3D, Wolfenstien-3D, Wolfenstein3D, Wolfenstien3D. Nothing.
i downloaded it from the place he mentioned in his thread (ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/wolf3d/wolf3d_iphone_v1.0_src.zip) but don't have any idea how to install it.
I see, the link is actually the source code (But it's still copyrighted so only for personal use i guess by developers in the program)
Ha I like the *Not responsible for damage to the iPhone caused by awesome action overload So is it submitted to the app store waiting for approval or just for jailbroken systems
wow, I played this back in 1996 SO MANY times...brings back memories. The nazi soldiers voices, they would curse (in german) and just the feel of the game. I hope it will be in the app store soon.
This game will obviously not be available worldwide, at least not in the German store. The game is forbidden in Germany since 1994 because of the use of Nazi symbols. Besides this it's also a FPS with red blood (age 18+) and therefore not allowed to be sold via download.
