maybe they are being greedy?

I'm sure there are games still that make money without IAP.

For me the best example of where IAP exists but in a nice way is Kingdom Rush - it's not in your face and you don't need it to finish the game.

Oh, you wanna quit the game? You have to buy the quit-function first! This whole IAP stuff – it's getting worse!
