No order, to cover every aspect of gaming hunger: the 2-minute "on the bus" game, the hardcore RPG, the engrossing multiplayer exp. Pick any 10. They are the games you NEED: Fighting: Street Fighter IV Mass-appeal: Tilt to Live Plants vs. Zombies Kosmo Spin Solipskier TapDisc (underrated gem) Sword & Poker 1 and 2 Wispin Silverfish (The last two are quite recent, but I've enjoyed them a lot. Simplicity is beauty) FPS: Archtype / N.O.V.A / Black Pegasus (virtually interchangeable for fun multiplayer) "Elite" Space: Galaxy on Fire 2 / Warpgate (wasn't a big fan of Gameloft's entry into the genre) RPG: Zenonia 1 / Chaos Rings. Yipe5 was also fantastic (casual, fun RPG). Cult: Minigore Adventure: Secret of Monkey Island SE 1 & 2, Beneath a Steel Sky, Broken Sword Retro and retro-inspired: Infinity Gene, Game Dev Story, Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Sonic 2 (if that counts), as well as the wonderful "Choice of the Dragon" / "Choice of Broadsides" stuff. Board Games: Neuroshima Hex!, Carcassonne and Ra have translated fabulously. Of course, Infinity Blade is still king of the must-buys if you have a device that can handle it, and we are all breathlessly awaiting Aralon. Finally, I have to mention Battle for Wesnoth. Dear god, that game is brilliant.
Secret of Monkey Island SE 1?! You can not be serious. The game is brilliant, that's for sure, but the controls are some of the worst I've ever seen in an iOS adventure game. I put the game down after 5 minutes. Part 2 is surely better when it comes to the controls. On the other hand Beneath A Steel Sky works brilliantly, I had no problem completing the game. It's really awesome.
The BASS "hold your finger on the screen and move around to see actionable objects" controls are certain superior to the "touch anywhere to move an irresponsive mouse reticule" controls of Monkey Island 1, but nowhere - NOWHERE- are you going to find a more perfect atmosphere. TSOMI's music, art (both retro and SE versions, which you could swipe into and out of!) and even the voices (which I have learned to really appreciate since playing Eternal Legacy yesterday), are all top-notch. I may be biased, because I played the game when I was younger, but I simply love it on my idevice. The experience is unparalleled, and due to the gameplay style, stringently efficient controls do not break the game, like they would if you were fighting monsters or shooting at other players. The BASS music is inferior, the BASS graphics are very drab (intentionally using greys and shades of orange/yellow to depict this orwellian future, but still, not easy on the eyes after a while). Monkey island uses vibrant colors and vibrant music. The storyline is equally vibrant - the depth of BASS, but with tons of irreverent humor. The sheer quality of the game outshines the controls.
Well, I'd also say that Monkey Island is a bit superior to BASS, which on the other hand is one of the best point & click adventures not done by LucasArts. I played Monkey Island some years ago on my Mac and loved it. But when I use my iPhone or iPod Touch, I don't want to struggle with the controls. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough, but after playing BASS and Monkey Island 2 I was VERY disappointed with the controls of Monkey Island. They really broke the experience for me. Maybe I could have tried harder than 5 minutes, but I just didn't want to. If someone aks me about the best games ever, I'd surely recommend Monkey Island. But if someones asks me about the top 10 must-have games on iOS, I just wouldn't recommend it. Maybe it's just a matter of taste, but I think on iOS controls need to be top-notch if you're talking about the best games. And in this case LucasArts just didn't nail it.
Gamefaqs seems to prefer eternal legacy over IB: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/946850-iphone-ipod/57435399 http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/946850-iphone-ipod/57430479 http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/946850-iphone-ipod/57435012 For some reason they are obsessed with eternal Legacy. Is the game really that good?
The Creeps! and Plants vs Zombies (Tower defence) 180 (Puzzle) Real Racing and Touch racing (Driving) Zenonia 2 (RPG) -Kindom Conquest (MMO) Game Dev Story (Simulation) Super Quickhook (Action) Minigore (Dual stick shooter)

I agree that MI1 is not a top-10 game in general. However, I tried to list vital pieces of most genres, and I definitely feel that if, for example, adventure games areyour thing, then it moves much higher up in the list and becomes top 10. MI2 may have had a revamped control system (I still preferred BASS's because it made actionable objects instantly recognizable), it didn't match the aesthetics of MI1. Nothing does, really - it is in a league of its own. To the poster who mentioned Eternal Legacy: It's god-awful. The camera is twitchy, even though you have "control" over it, the battle system does not really resemble that of FFVII's (which we were all led to believe this would be a clone of, because that is what Gameloft does), and the voice acting...it's something you have to experience for yourself. I would really like the autographs of those responsible...IN BLOOD! (Eternal Legacy players will get this reference) And to the folks who suggested Aralon....I can't wait for that. It looks so much like Oblivion that I am frothing.
