Honorable TouchArcade community, Does anyone know for sure when/why an app (iPhone/iPad) game hits Top 200 Paid Apps (games) at iTunes? Weve been watching iTunes since the updates of our Zepi games were released on June 14, 2011 (when last updating, we switched from Action into Trivia category). They hit iTunes top in many countries (Trivia category) on the release date with just a few sales. Weve witnessed days with no sales and the game was still featured in top positions. True, many updated versions were downloaded So, is there an interrelation between a top position at iTunes and the number of sales/downloads after being updated? How do the Apple team define the numerical position within the Top 200 Paid Apps? Or there is another basis for hitting the top chart? Any ideas? iTunes link
At the top 200 for trivia, you could probably get 1 sale every day and maintain the rank. It's a really easy category to be in. Maybe even 1 sale every couple days.
not every subcategorie of games are as busy as the next one.. there are subsection where you can stay in the top charts with small amount of downloads in very high rankings.. that just means the subcategorie in total does not get much attention from consumers.. so the small dl numbers get you a higher spot in thoose.. well if you count 1&1 together it can be very valuable to know into which subcategories you put your products in.. because you get "easy" visibility in thoose charts (which is still better than nothing in most cases)
For the featured, when your game is good enough to attract and get recgonized by app store's staff, it will get featured for sure. For the subsection, I rarely look into any.
Interesting info in here. My guess would be that Trivia is close to education/learning...and from my experience in the edu software sector, it takes a little bit more work to get consumer excited about your product. Lets face it, education, learning, trivia...sounds more like "work" compared to "leisure" to a good number of people.
That's probably true. We get single digit sales per day with Go Native and we're hovering around 50th in the trivia category.
I would love to see download/purchase numbers per each category on the App Store. Would be very interesting to see the skew of popularity.
