I myself am really disappointed with the game. I haven't come across any bugs (though late in the game, I did have a lot of trouble defending series of hits - generally the hits toward the end of the series), but I really dislike the gameplay change. The original combined timing with strategy (figuring out which attack to do when with which enemy). With the game just being about timing now, I no longer have the intense interest I had with the original (which I played through multiple times). Even the graphic and audio remake doesn't impress me. The music feels like it lacks the energy of the original - it's now so serene sounding. And the graphics are inconsistent (what's up with that cheesy sphere effect when your brute character revives?).
Here's hoping Mechner decides to do an emulator to include the original version in a future update... |

I played the original Karateka to death on my Atari 800XL (still in a box in the closet) and my Apple IIe. I would have bought the original for iOS in a second.
What I saw of this did not interest me. |

Decided to run through it so I could free up some space. Those were not 28 minutes of excitement to say the least. Wasn't too impressed by even the visuals.

Big shame this. LOVED the original, was hoping for more of the same but this game despite the name is not good at all. You get a lot of good retro remakes but this seems to fall into the category of 'lets release a game, give it a retro title and make out its a remake and get a fair bit of money'.
A fair few online sites have interviewed Mechner, is a shame many of these sites didnt say 'actually this is a bad game' Shame, had potential but this is one retro remake which is very poor |
