Hello you lovely peeps! Hope you're all well.

I haven't slept for two days!

    Wibble!

Anyway, my new game got submitted to Apple today, for iPod and iPhone!

    Hurrah!

It's a 1bit run 'n' gun game we like to call 'Air Supply'

    Here's a vid for you all! :D

And a little blurb to go with it!

*** Your AIR is running out! ***

Ambushed on a standard trade journey between Lave and Diso, Spaceman Sam is shot down by pirates!

Now, stranded on an alien Moon, Sam must run for his life, avoiding meteorites, fearsome UFOs and enemies such as robots, aliens, and Space Monkey Zombie Pirate Cyborgs(!), hoping in vain to stay alive long enough to be rescued!

    Features:

*Pure awesome gameplay: Run, jump, shoot, collect!
*Gorgeous Retina Display 1bit graphics in glorious black and white!
*Cosmic 1bit music by Mr. Beep, made using a ZX Spectrum! Six tracks to unlock!
*Grab powerups! Slow down your speed, grab a full tank of air, or protect yourself with shields!
*Gain ranks based on kills - from 'Harmless' to the coveted title of 'Elite'.
*Unlock everything! Play the game to unlock new characters, backgrounds, enemies, music and even colour!
    *Special Guest appearances
    *15 Achievements to attain!
    *Fully iOS4 compatible
    *More unlocks coming in updates!
*Amazingly addictive - just ask our testers! :D

**How long will you last before your Air Supply runs out???**

Well, I hope some of you find it interesting! I'm off out to celebrate, and will catch up later, and post some screenshots tomorrow I guess! :D

Have a great Saturday, and thanks for looking!

    Cheers man, that's appreciated!

Looking at your profile though, you have a second gen iphone? The game *will* work with that, no problem, but the load times are a little excessive on that model :(

    Just being honest!

If you have an iPad, we're planning a version for that. And we're also planning a version for the Mac, if all goes well!

Like I said - it's still perfectly playable on a 2G - I have no issues selling it for lower spec devices - but it works a lot better in general on later models!

    Cheers!

It's a 2g ipod, not phone, and there's really nothing I can do about it.

I think I played nearly *every* runner out there - known and unknown! I find now when I play other ones that I always try and double jump (which is the system I have in Air Supply).

So believe me, I know what you mean about having your fill of endless runners! We just hope that the music, the style of the game, the focus on unlocks, and that it's damn addictive will help differentiate it from the rest! (though I find runners addictive in and of themselves - even the bad ones! Crazy!)

    @nesio - thanks!

Here are some screenshots for you, as promised!

i loved the red pixel graphics, but unfortunately this'll still be a pass for me. i've played enough of these games to last me a LONG time, and since this doesnt have any special twist, i doubt i'll be playing it for long

    still, looks pretty nice!

That's fair enough, fella, I understand completely.

Did you miss the bit about your Air Supply constantly running down, and having to keep it up by collecting air pickups?

It essentially does away with a 'lives' system. You don't die unless your air is at 0, or you fall!

I understand if that's not enough for you though - it's certainly a crowded market out there for this type of game!

    Cheers,

    QS :D

I love the art style and gameplay sounds unique with the air supply concept. I'm still on the edge about it though. Anything else about it that sets it aside from other runners?

Well, as I mentioned, I played a LOT of other runners! I knew it would be important to differentiate it somewhat from the herd, hence the art style (and the music - one of the tracks you can hear in the video!).

Apart from that, the air supply concept was paramount! From what the testers have told me, it's something that constantly has you on edge!

Also, the game speeds up, er, 'faster' than most runners. You end up in a kind of 'zen' mode when you get it up to full speed, and it really does get the adrenaline pumping!

Other than that, a big influence from one of my fave runners (Rogue Runner - do check it out if you can!) was the unlock system. I found I was playing that game more and more to unlock the different skins for the player character and level.

We've taken that a step further. There are four types of unlock - Character, level, music, and colour.

So you collect stars to unlock characters. Air for music. Kills will increase your rank and get you new colours. And distance travelled will unlock new levels.

We got an average unlock rate from our testers, and have tried to make sure that you get *something* new every 10 minutes of play, be it a new music track, level, or achievement.

Now, as I mentioned, I found the unlock mechanic incredibly addictive in Rogue Runner. But I sent a version of Air Supply to testers *without* this, and they still found it addictive as hell! Which was wonderful to hear!

So, in short, to differentiate it from other runners we have:
    Air Supply mechanic
    Unlocks
    Art style
    Music
    Speed
    Fearsome UFOs

It may not be enough! But I hope that it'll appeal to people anyway!

    I guess we'll see when it's out!

    Cheers!

    QS :D

I was one of the beta testers for this game, and I can assure you that it was a blast to play! I was so completely addicted, I put aside some of my projects just to play it!

Having to collect the air supply during the game is a nice twist to it, and really adds to the intensity of the game, because you're not just worried about running into walls, or falling into a pit, nor shooting enemies, you have to keep your air supply up too, so there are a lot of variables you're thinking about while playing the game.

It's an intensely fun, and addictive game, and I think once you get into it, you will have a hard time putting it down :) I know I did!!

Did I see Gravonaut in the trailer? That game was freaking hard!

Anyways, this doesn't look too bad, I'll pick it up.
