Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,596 368 83 #5 Talbs, Dec 11, 2012 You make it sound like there's heaps of mobile version of this. What other mobile versions of stone age or there? Have you played this one yet? Just interested to know, that's all. Think I'll grab this one. Baracus Well-Known Member Jun 19, 2009 1,023 0 36 UK http://www.hatenintendo.co.uk #6 Baracus, Dec 12, 2012 Wondering if anyone know what this gameplay is like? Looks quite a lot like Caylus in terms of mechanics from those screenshots. Is that true? I found Caylus a bit too trade-focussed that it made my brain hurt. Either way might give this a punt. cprloe Well-Known Member Oct 17, 2009 830 0 0 Katy, Texas USA #7 cprloe, Dec 12, 2012 The best description I have seen is its "Caylus lite." It's still resource management and worker placement centered, but there aren't as many complex decisions as Caylus. If you want a more detailed description, check out the BGG page on Stone Age and listen to Ryan Sturm's How to Play podcast on iTunes. No offense, just curious if that's what you're not happy with. LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,277 127 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #13 LordGek, Dec 12, 2012 Game Impressions It's a pretty decent game, reminds me a bit of Le Havre. You spend each turn assigning your workers to various tasks like gathering resources, dealing with merchants, and or constructing buildings. The catch being that there are almost always more things you'll want to do in a turn then you have workers to support and that you have to share these limited resources with the other players since you'll each take a turn assigning your workers one task at a time each round. If you don't quickly claim the mating hut (how new workers are made), then one of your opponents surely will. So the trick is, much like Le Havre, keeping your tribe fed (having more tribesmen will allow you to do more each turn but also require that much more food to maintain) while at the same time setting up to have the most victory points at the end of the game which will be based on a combination of buildings owned, specialists hired, and technologies you've discovered. While there are some 5 different primary resources to juggle, I find the resource management a lot more simplified than say a game like Le Havre. There are many cases where something will just cost "3 resources" and it doesn't even matter which ones. Well implemented Solo and Async Multiplay but ONLY on iPhone at first. 4/5 LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,277 127 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #14 LordGek, Dec 12, 2012 I think he means that while it maintains the gameplay of the physical boardgame, the interface and art have been modified so as to work well on the little iPhone screen. The layout probably shares little resemblance to the REAL board game. drloony Well-Known Member Jul 19, 2012 310 0 0 #15 drloony, Dec 12, 2012 Here we go, another must buy. Plus they just updated Kingdom Builder, and it just won board game of the year 2012. I lost my first match horribly, but at least I know why, and I know what I could have done better. If I liked this, would it be probable that I'd like Caylus as well? They're both worker placement board games, but if I buy Caylus, it means I'll be a dollar short for the upcoming Carcassone expansion. saiyukialex Well-Known Member Sep 24, 2009 2,032 0 0 Shanghai, China #17 saiyukialex, Dec 12, 2012 Rules and Credits are not in the center of the screen on iPhone 5. Skeuomorphism has nothing to do with it. My issue is the lack of iPhone 5 support. I know they say it's coming, but I'll buy the game then.
