I made this as a simple design and need help creating a better environment and characters Any advice is great also!
Is this the final work? Or mock ups? Honestly, they look like place holders. There is no focused theme, e.g.: the arms and legs of the people don't fit. Also, the doors on the houses are kinda weird, I think they need an outline or something. It's a little like kindergarden art if you ask me. That's just my opinion.

Hehe...yeah...the art is bad. That's his point though. He is looking for someone to help him make something better.
Thanks for the feedback, and those are a bit less then mockups! Lol, I'm just asking for help making a better design, this is I guess what you said, a place holder until I get something good!
