  • He gets picked up by price drops sites/forums like Appshopper, mine does not. It's huge exposure as customers think they get a $5 game for free, pretty much insta-download as a knee jerk reaction, while they have to ponder if they should bother with an alternate free version.
  • His description does not mention that it's a trial and there is a paywall while I do explain the restrictions in mine out of respect for the players.

Put all of the above together and it's no wonder you see that kind of behavior over and over . Worse part is that it alienates even further the critical mass of early adopters that makes premium "real" games possible as they become even more wary as an unfortunate side effect.. especially with a game that had been released since less than a month.
He was at 24th because it showed up as a price drop (and the TA article). Yours showed up as a new game.

If the appstore worked as it used to, where you could manually browse ALL releases in order of time (and alphabetical order, a mix of the two), your trial version might have faired better. But Apple being Apple decided that the 5.0-6.0 appstore made too much sense. It's damn impossible to see the newest releases, and the card system, especially on an ipad, is hokey.

Apple also (why???) dropped the "did you mean" search when you misspell an app. If I don't know the exact name of what I'm looking for, I'm out of luck.

You nailed something on the head: I am rarely an early adopter anymore. Yeah, I bought Dungeon Plunder within the first few days, but that's rare for me. Even moreso if you don't have a reputation. It issn't just having paid apps turn into trials. So many games have been nerfed over time, get adverts inserted, etc.

Essentially I have to trust developers and publishers to make the right decisions by their customers strictly out of the goodness of their souls. I would be surprised Apple hasn't cracked down on dishonest devs, but they make their 30% either way. Apple probably wants to see those revenue streams maintained as much as developers do.

Sorry, got in late in the discussion... does this mean that even if I bought the full game, after the update, everything is now locked nd I have to pay again to unlock the previously unlocked content?
