There's nothing but positive reviews in these forums yet someone rated it 3 stars. Id like to know why. Looks pretty fun.

Thank You

Hi Everyone - I'm the game designer and I want to thank redribbon for opening this thread about Nimian Legends : BrightRidge. This kind of support means a lot to an independent developer like me. Ive worked on games as a side hobby for over a decade, not making much money but doing it because Ive always loved to create worlds. Now i am selling a few copies which is great but what's even better is to hear from people in the gaming community, find out what you like and enjoy, and get your support from discussions liek this. So just a very heartfelt thank you to everyone. I'll answer a few questions but I also want to share this video - someone recorded a half hour of exploration which is really a thrill for me that someone too the time to do it. It will give you a bit more of a look at BrightRidge:

Thanks for pointing that out - There's a rock just under the water that the deer is walking on so i does look like he's performing a miracle - part of my updates is massaging the world to be more and more engaging and feedback like this will help me clean up the bits and pieces of the experience

I'm sure everyone has a different reason, but from what i'm getting from reviews its 2 things.

One is that the game only works on iPhone 5 and higher (although the iPad version is ready for submission to the app store) so there are a lot of crashes for people using older devices, which is understandable frustrating. I'm tryung really hard to optimize it for A5 devices with 512mb ram. It's really the ram that affects the gameplay most because of all the textures and althougb i do have it running partly on iPad mini, iPhone 4s in my home tests, it might require sacrificing a lot of gameplay and or objects/textures to support them - so thats still a work in progress and hopefully i'll be able to figure it out.

The other thing is that its light on traditional quests on mostly just about exploration. There are events that happen as you explore, you can hunt any creature you encounter, you can earn new powers like the ability to fly (which a lot of people seem to love, me too) or teleport around the map. But if you're looking for an MMO attack fest this isnt it. But now that i have the framework in place I do have some additional mini-ventures to add to the game in upcoming updates so there will be some more traditional adventure included. Right now it seems to be resonating most with people who are into the explore-nature aspect, which i love because at heart i consider myself more of a World Designer (whatever that is) rather than a game designer - so we'll see where this goes

Thank you
Game designer here - thanks for the compliment

It's mostly about exploration so although you can attack creatures, the focus is on discovering new views, gaining new powers through exploration that let you see the world differently (like flying and teleport upgrades) and finsing and seeing the wildlife (although yoi can attack and hunt almost any creature in the world if you want to). I'm about to release the iPad4 and higher universal app, then after that i have a few mini adventures id like to add in. All that said, i guess the amount of time spent in the game depends on how rewarding it is for you to explore.

rrvirus iploaded a half hour or so of exploring the world in this you tube video, so it might give you some idea of what to expect

There's no overarching story (yet) but it is part of a larger world i am buidling called Nimian Legends - you can see a world map at http://nimianlegends.com

I plan on updating BrightRidge with some mini adventures and integrating the app and HTML5 RPG map together - its a long process but lately with the release of both games i can se it coming together bit by bit.

I really love landscapes and the outdoors in games (Im always checking out Video Game Foliage http://video-game-foliage.tumblr.com/). I grew up in an age of grey corridors and closed in spaces, when games like Shadow of the Colossus and Grand Theft Auto came out, i fell in love with the wide open spaces. So that's a huge if not the most important part of my designs, i want to create a world with a sense of place that you can explore and experience.

Thank you Vovin

I'm from Quebec too You can load the iPhone version onto an iPad 3 but there's issues with sound latency (i turn off the soundtrack) and soem frame lag. Its definitely better on an iPad 4/Air/Retina mini. That said, i just finished optimizing the game, removed lag on iPhone 5 and added native iPad support (ipad 4/air/retina mini). It's a 1.1 update that im submitting to the app store as soon as i finish testing to make sure i didnt introduce any new bugs. I havent tested the optimized version on iPad 3 yet (i have the ios 8 beta installed and dont have the ios 8 sdk all setup yet) but im hoping it will run even smoother than the 1.0 version. In any case optimization is rally importnat to me and im going to keep working to make the experience smoother with each release. It's extra worth it to me too because this was originally 4 times the size, and its been split into 4 smaller worlds (brightridge, the desert of doonpillar etc...) so the more i optimize the core game engine the better each new area will be too.

That's all really exciting and I can relate. When I first set foot in Morrowind and eventually Skyrim I was totally taken back.

Now just add enemy's and you're golden!
