Hi, does anyone have and willing to share a list of top review sites for iPhone games? Would be nice to have such list so we can share between developers. My game is 'In Review' state as of this morning, time to get ready. Thanks in advance if you are willing to share!
That's actually a good idea. Might be nice to have a comprehensive list of sites people can contact. Here's the ones I've compiled so far. Touch Arcade [email protected] Touchgen [email protected] Slide to Play [email protected] Pocketgamer.co.uk [email protected] AppAdvice.com [email protected] TUAW http://www.tuaw.com/apprequests [email protected] Appsafari.com http://www.appsafari.com/submit/
thanks a lot Foursaken_Media, it's a good start! Wouldn't mind this thread to be sticked, as I believe any developer could benefit from it. Hopefully more devs will add to this list.
Some time ago I found this "30 review sites" article. Most of them useful and worth the try! travisdunn
List of names I've compiled a list myself of review websites (maybe not all good ones) during releasing our last game, Only names unfortunately and not links, and only 5 replied. Hope this is useful: (Sorry if this is against TA Policies to name other websites) 148Apps App Advice Apptism App Versity AppModo Apple iPhone School iPhone App Reviews Touch Reviews Touch Apps Touch Gen NoDPad Modojo Touch Arcade App Safari MacWorld iPhoneAppList All iPhone apps review iPhone Footprint Appera Apps Patrol App Store Apps Whats on iPhone iPhone Freak All about iPhone iPhone Life AppDope MobileGameFAQs Mac Life App-rication Pocket Full of Apps Slide to Play App Craver Pocket Gamer AppSpy Touch Aholics Portable Gamer Games Uncovered
There's a few on there that aren't currently active or have changed - worth checking them out. iPwngames was good, but hasn't updated the front page since December. Appcraver is one of the sites that always requests payment for expedited reviews, so if you don't want to pay, take that off your list. The key with any of these sites is to try and build a relationship with the writers. Treat them well, see how you can work together - some sites like to do contests, some like exclusives, some need advertising. Send emails and ask how you can work together to promote your game and their site. If they agree to a review - make sure you link back to the review from your website/Twitter/Facebook once it's published, maybe use a quote on your App Store description if they give permission. Hope all this helps!
That's a very helpful list guys. We're working on our first game and I was just trying to make a list for myself similar to this. Definitely saves me a lot of time. Thanks a lot!
You can also look into video reviews. For example, AppVee also does YouTube reviews in addition to reviews on their site.
Yeah, list like this or even sticked FAQ of marketing ideas would be nice for all of us developers: - Constantly updated list of review sites - How to send professional emails to request sites - How to make professional game trailer - Pricing strategies - Things to do and not when featured etc. So far I found getting the word out the most demanding and nerve wracking. I prefer coding alone in the dark corner of my little room any time
OK, so do you have a friend who is more outgoing and people-focussed? Why not ask them to help you? You could even offer them payment based on how well the game does, as an incentive. That way you can concentrate on the part that you like best, and have someone who is more comfortable with PR/marketing deal with that side of the business.
Also want to raise awarness of this site: http://www.indievision.org/ Very useful for iPhone sales data + publisher contact details + Press contact details. Enjoy
