"The game's sound design is the strongest facilitator of Anodyne's sense of dread and unease; the ambience and music give off an air of suspicion and danger, with ugly chords and disquieting, unnatural-sounding synthetic pings. It all adds up to a game where you're not sure who to trust, and you can't be sure of what's real." - Penny Arcade Report "[The developers] have made magic with this game, creating a world that I could be afraid to enter but never want to leave...The locations are vibrant and detailed, going to all manner of different places...[the music] can take the visual mood and shift it into territory that pixel art shouldn't be able to inhabit...this has Game of the Year written all over it." - Mash Those Buttons Information Seller:Sean Hogan Genre:Action, Adventure Release:Jun 27, 2013 Updated:Jul 19, 2018 Version:1.516 Size:66.7 MB TouchArcade Rating: User Rating: (3) Your Rating:unrated Compatibility:HD Universal Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel one.sixty.four Well-Known Member Jan 14, 2013 1,282 0 0 minnesota #2 one.sixty.four, Sep 8, 2013 I've had this on my watch list for a while, any good? Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,239 179 63 #8 Royce, Sep 9, 2013 Controls are definitely the worst thing about this game, but it's still worth picking up, particularly for a buck. I'm early into the game, but controls seem fine to me, so far. cdbaksu Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2013 98 0 0 #10 cdbaksu, Sep 9, 2013 I'm so glad I didn't purchase this game at full price: the performance on iPhone 4 is just awful. It's pixel art, what's driving behind the pixels that my iPhone 4 would struggle keeping up framerate when a slime enters the scene??? ScotDamn Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Jul 8, 2013 1,990 0 36 Wireless Sales Happy Daddy https://twitter.com/ScotDamn #11 ScotDamn, Sep 9, 2013 Agreed. The controls are god aweful too. Not sure if this is iPhone 4 only but the game is near unplayable the controls are so bad. I'll touch one direction and it will go the complete opposite... I really wanted to like this game too. cdbaksu Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2013 98 0 0 #12 cdbaksu, Sep 9, 2013 Even worse is that apparently the developer of the game isn't going to patch it further. The same thread says he's working on an Android version that "might" have touch controls (assuming touch to move) that will release sometime this month. Heard good things about the PC version. Sounds like the iOS version, however, isn't worth the download. Not sure how whatever Adobe tool he's using could not have any way to improve controls. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,239 179 63 #16 Royce, Sep 9, 2013 I would definitely classify the controls as bad, but they are functional enough for me, and I've never seen lag on my iPad mini (haven't tried on my iPhone). I certainly think it's worth the buck if you don't mind fiddly controls (my issue is that the detection areas aren't big enough for the most part, I've never had an incorrect button register) but it seems experience may vary some by device used. JahkanTaka Well-Known Member May 24, 2013 93 0 0 #17 JahkanTaka, Sep 9, 2013 I'm playing this on a 4th gen touch and really enjoying it so far. Made it past the first boss and have explored a little bit further. The controls are far from perfect but nowhere near making the game unplayable. For those having trouble with the d-pad, you can touch to move anywhere on the actual game screen. In the config menu there is an option to set movement to touch only but you will still have the controls on screen. Regardless of which control type you use, I highly recommend playing in portrait mode, just seems to work better that way. The framerate can be an issue at times but hasn't affected my ability to play and enjoy the game. For only $.99, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a Zelda style game for their iOS device. rezzo Well-Known Member Apr 14, 2012 134 0 16 #18 rezzo, Sep 10, 2013 b00, that's sad.
