I started as a mage cause that is my usual go to class. But recently I have grown tired of the same old same old with regards to mage classes.

I'm considering making another character as a ranger or a monk.

Share your class, what you like about it, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda.

    Enjoy!

    On a Boat!
im a lvl 13 elf ranger and im specializing in assasin skills because i u cant move back and shoot arrows or your rapid shot which is dumb. i like the class because it got the range or a mage with is good to get their health down before they get to you, the sneak skill is great for those missions where you have to kill the boss but its like 20 minions around, and the assasin speed is great.

Order and Chaos - thoughts after level 15 (as a Ranger)

I'm really liking this game, a LOT.

I haven't played WoW (or ANY MMO) since October, 2008. So perhaps my view of the game is influenced by how long it has been since I played WoW, but for reference sake, I had two WoW accounts, and five characters at level 80, each with epic mounts, doing instanced dungeons every night. So that is where I came from. I quit cold turkey because I was spending WAAAAY too much time on the game. So bear all of that in mind as you read my impressions of THIS game.

Order and Chaos has truly captured the WoW feeling. It isn't WoW, don't get me wrong, but they captured what makes (for me anyway) leveling up FUN. The quests are very familiar (this may be bad for some of you, but for me, it has been "comfortable"). I've seen kill quests, fetch quests, item drop quests, and even really well done escort quests (these were notoriously badly scripted in the first days of WoW and other MMOs).

I just recently got some pauldrons (shoulder armor) and right before I logged off I had gotten my first trinket as a quest reward (I had to, at level 15, kill a level 17 "elite" boss, which I was -*BARELY*- able to solo. As in, I was webbed to the ground, couldn't kite, and had NO VISIBLE HEALTH left when I killed the boss). The same things that I found REALLY satisfying in WoW (like that quest I just described) are very satisfying in this game. So for me, that is a HUGE bonus.

So far I've done ZERO grinding so far. I've done nothing but quest, and while I have had two times that I -very- briefly had no quests in my quest log, for the most part, I've felt like I've done well at finding quests and the quests I've found being appropriate for my level. I only JUST found an "orange" quest, but the quest giver was in an area with mobs some four to five levels higher than me, so that is to be expected (I got there by following my arrow as a "b-line" instead of following roads. I clearly went somewhere I shouldn't have gone, lol!). The quests have leveled me up in what I would describe BETTER than WoW fashion. I've had NO gray quests so far, and very few green ones. By focusing ONLY on quests (ie, no grinding), I've pretty consistently had yellow quests, which is traditionally a good balance of exp/quest and downtime (for me anyway).

At level 14 I was killing level 16 spiders and for the first time felt a desire to eat food. Up to level 14, I hadn't had ANY need to eat food, I simply didn't have downtime at all. I think this is a good sign. Even now, I've got PLENTY of food from quest rewards, so I don't expect to need to spend money on food at all for a while.

One note about grouping - I haven't "had" to group at all (which I view as a good thing). I've grouped a few times to help people, but mostly I've grouped when there is a "kill mob X" quest and everyone is standing around waiting for it to spawn. Similarly I've grouped for two "escort" quests just to save time (I was last in line waiting, invited everyone to my group, and got it done fast).

Oh, one item of note - I did have two annoying quests. I was level 14 and was on a beach full of level 16 crabs. I could kill them, but they were tightly packed, so I needed to pick them off one at a time. The two quests I had in the area were for finding "dry boxes" and helping sailors on the ground by using a first aid kit on them. The annoying part was that FREQUENTLY I'd kill off just barely enough crabs to safely get to the sailors or boxes and then someone ELSE would get to them first. At first I was annoyed, then I discovered a couple things. First, while people using their first aid kit on the sailors "used up" the sailor (making you have to wait for a respawn), it turns out I was able to successfully use first aid on the sailors WHILE IN COMBAT, BEING HIT, so it wasn't too big of a deal in the end. The second thing I discovered I was OVERJOYED about - I hadn't seen this in many MMOs at all - the boxes SEEMED to be independently available for each player. In other words, the boxes on the beach never disappeared. I watched a guy go through four boxes, doing the full "gathering" animation on each box, and yet I was able to follow behind him and do the same, extracting dry boxes (and junk) from each box he had just examined. So in the end these two "annoying" quests turned out to not be so bad after all.

I've picked up EVERYTHING that dropped, and sold it. I was able to get the backpack expansion pretty quick. I put three items up on the auction house but they haven't sold yet. From what I could tell, there wasn't any cost for selling items on the AH, which is nice! :)

I haven't bought ANYTHING. I've saved every penny I earned and as a result, I'm making money at a good clip. Item drops are now in the range of 3 and 4 silver pieces for good drops. Travel costs within the zone I'm questing are 75 copper, so while I haven't used it, the price feels quite reasonable. Another item of note, at my level, a death costs 12 silver. This is enough to be painful (that is several decent item drops), but not painful enough that you'll go broke unless you are playing stupidly (ie, getting killed a lot).

I've done about half of my playing over 3G (tethering the iPad 2 to my iPhone 4) and half over wifi. Other than a few rare cases where my 3G was just utter crap, there is really not any playable difference I can tell between 3G and wifi. Bear in mind I generally have four and five bars of 3G.

I've played a little on my iPhone 4, but I -really- prefer the bigger screen on the iPad. This is NOT to say that my iPhone can't play the game - it does ASTOUNDINGLY well. I've been amazed to play such a feature rich game on my phone. Seriousisly this game is another level in my opinion - this is "full computer" class level of content from what I can tell. The "full map" shows that the amount of content is substantial. I can already tell that even if they DON'T have instanced dungeons (or whatever you want to call it), that there is MUCH MORE than our money's worth in the purchase price. ESPECIALLY considering you can replay the game with a different class and get a totally different feel.

Overall I'm happier with this game than I had any expectation of being. The ONLY complaints I have concern content that they may not have created yet (instances) - I've talked to some level 25 people and they said they hadn't seen any instances at all, so it may be late game if at all.

To give you an idea though, I've found a LOT of green drops, I've seen probably 20 or so blue drops in the auction house, and the auction house lists purple and orange items as searchable items, so to me that says a LOT about how far they have (or plan to) go with items. They have a fully functional mail system, an auction house, the quests seem robust, the size of the world is CONSIDERABLE, the "zoning" is VERY minimal so far (I've only had to "zone" when I went to the town with the auction house). They have done WAY WAY WAY more than I would have expected for a game to have at release without tons of pre-hype before it came out. This game is amazing in my book.

I've not ever been a big fan of PvP, so I can understand if people miss that. It has dueling, but in ALL my time in WoW, I never once dueled a single person, EVER, so from my perspective, this game has more PvP already implemented than I'm likely to participate in. :)

    Anyway, these are my thoughts.

I briefly tried out a ranger and a monk. I think I'm going to go with the monk. They have spells, healing ability, and decen attack to boot. I get my magic fix while not having to be a typical boring Mage.

I'm a mage with the fire spec. Skyflame, I believe? Anyways, I've reached level 7 and enjoy playing it but the squishiness is bothersome. I've died 5 times doing just one quest...

I really hope I get better spells for defending myself. Energy Shield just isn't enough. Of course, Skyflame seems more offensive than defensive. This is from looking at A) The talents and B) What most games use, which is Frost/Ice/Cold = Better Survivability and Fire/Heat/Flame = Better Power.

Didn't Wrath come out in November 2008? What is this sorcery? :p

Been working on a human guardian with a few battle skills, so far at level 14 I am slowly starting to feel the high defense come into play, it will be around level 20 where my guardian should start being able to hold out for a good time against a mob.

The battle skills I am going after are Ruthless (crit chance boost) and Lacerate (bleed DoT) along with most if not all defense options in the guardian tree.

Can anyone help me with what to use my talent points for on my ranger? I'm not sure if I want to go with Assassin or Archer. Any ideas or tips on what to put my points in? Thanks :p

@verxion: you are convincing me, I miss the old days of playing wow (I am still raiding these days, but will probably stop soon). I like the idea of having a portable game wow but game loft is bothering me here; I have lost complete confidence in their ability to balance and or maintain balance of games. That and I am not sure how deep the talent trees are ... From the screenshots I am only seeing only. 4 active skills? I can't imagine playing wow with less than 20 hotkeys... At least not yet.

You place your skills in a little wheel that you can slide around to get to the other skills it actualy works very well

Whoever thought of that is beyond ridiculous. Either the game is incredibly dumbed down simple or juts lame. Food, potion, herbs, pet related, summon related, buffs, auto casts, crafting related, and active skills all go into a tiny wheel? Only 3 buttons at a time and probably limited to like 7 or 8? That's why this game can't be serious...

I only put battle and healing spells on my scroll wheel. Auto casts don't go there. Potions and consumables have their own place that tabs in on the right. It all works very well.

I'm currently playing a warrior but I'd love to start a battle monk later on down the road and then a Mage.

Yeah obviously haven't played it yet, still skeptical that's all. I am sure the system works well for the game, just don't think it would be enough for some serious play. Like how you need to activate trinkets or heals on the spot (in the split second especially in pvp), two taps especially without a keyboard seems kind of slow to me. Even if items are not in the wheel, it doesn't change much.

Obviously I haven't play the game yet but I am very curious now. With my limited experience playing Aralon where the abilities bar requires cycling around between 2 rows; that just totally sucked for me.

Can someone show a screenshot of the bars?

    Questions:

    1) Is the monk class just like clerics in other games?

    2) Where do i get all the skill books? How many active skills avaliable for each class, is there a skill tree?

    3) I understand that each class has two different specialization, and under these they have a lot of skills, are these skills passive?

    4) Take monk for example, there is the divine and military category, is it possible to add skills in both areas?

    5) I leveled and i dont know how to add my stats? or is this done automatically?

    6) What is the current max level of the game?

    7) Say i have chosen to play in America in Tear Coast, is there any way i switch servers?
*Note* Why categorized players in countries? Were we not taught to accept people of different races? I am thinking racism..

    Answers:

    1) Is the monk class just like clerics in other games?

I'm thinking yes. Monk's can heal and have abilities to help out friendly players. They have okay attack. Hopefully mine will be stronger later on.

    2) Where do i get all the skill books? How many active skills avaliable for each class, is there a skill tree?

Skill books are available towns from your class specific trainer. You have to reach a certain level before new books are available.

Tons of skills in the skill trees.

    3) I understand that each class has two different specialization, and under these they have a lot of skills, are these skills passive?

I'm a monk and most of the skills are passive but some are actual spells and therefore not passive.

    4) Take monk for example, there is the divine and military category, is it possible to add skills in both areas?

Yes you can add to both categories. But to unlock higher skills you have to spend a certain amount of points in that category. For example, a monk needs 5 points spent in the Divine category to be able to use the higher level Divine skills.

    5) I leveled and i dont know how to add my stats? or is this done automatically?

I'm pretty sure this is done automatically unless I'm a total n00b.
Once you reach lvl 5 you start spending 1 point per lvl in your skill trees.

    6) What is the current max level of the game?

    Current lvl cap is 60

    7) Say i have chosen to play in America in Tear Coast, is there any way i switch servers?
*Note* Why categorized players in countries? Were we not taught to accept people of different races? I am thinking racism..

I don't see a way to switch servers. But you can make a second character on another server.

I think its done that way to players are closer to each other for better connection speed.
