I have actually been playing a few Speccy games recently. Chase HQ has to be the best home conversion I have seen! The Speccy always had much more true to the arcade visuals than the C64... just with less colour. But yeah, both great machines. Can't beat the SID for the ultimate chiptune sound, though :P

Bomb Jack was another excellent Speccy game, as was Commando

Agreed - I'll leave that discussion there

(speccy is still better though )

Absolutely agreed! Honestly, the Speccy had some truly fantastic games on it that shaped my childhood (and the two you mention were a couple of my faves).

Apparently (according to wikipedia) there were over 24,000 games released for it.

Which sounds like a staggering amount until you realise that's probably how many games get released on iOS in a day*

QS =D

*I jest. Probably.

I think you're being a bit loose with the term "games" :P

So I'm getting something of a Super Crate Box vibe from SOS, similar.

I got Super Crate Box about 3 months ago I think, and I really like it!

SOS is not really like SCB though - sorry if that disappoints, but it's really its own game. It's actually inspired/an homage to Jetpac on the ZX Spectrum - which is about 30 years old now! - But at the same time, it's different to that too! :O

A clever person on Twitter actually said something along the lines of 'It's as if Jeff Minter made Jetpac' - which was an awesome way to describe it

QS =D

EDIT - I should add that one of the big differences is that there's only one 'action' button (you can see it on the right side of the screen in the screenshots).
The way it works is that tapping the button will thrust a tiny bit *and* shoot at the same time. Holding the button down will make you thrust up till you let go.
I was worried that some people might not like it, but not one of the testers ever mentioned it. So I hope people will find it fun and intuitive to play

I actually really like the control method. It's nice and simple, as iOS games should be... not a screen full of buttons Works great!!!
