CAVE just announced via Twitter (and a live event in Japan), that their next iOS game will be Deathsmiles, and will be available this spring.

    iPhone Mode = CAVE RPG

Loved this on the 360. I'll definitely be purchasing this, you can never have too many portable shmups.

I wish Taito would jump into the fray with a Castle of Shikigami III port. :)

Instabuy, definitely -- of course, they may have an early sale with this as they did with the other titles. I'm a bit worried tho. Just wonder how they cope with the sophisticated controls. Let's hope it's not a twinstick solution -- Mushihimesama was a bit crap in that regard, imho. We'll know soon anyway. All fingers crossed.

Definitely buying this the minute it drops, as I have with all CAVE's other titles.

Also excited for the new gameplay mode they announced for Bug Panic.

  13. The border around the game screen is kind of annoying, but I'll live. Looking forward to this.

When they say spring, I hope they mean early spring.

If it weren't for the border your thumbs would be covering some key parts of the screen, enemies/bullets come from all sides.

Let's hope you can swap those button's arrangement as in Galuda II and DDPR.

I'm hoping for a 1x portrait option (made a quick mockup here), looks tiny but it'd be the same screen size as "small" (native arcade res) on DDP and Galuda, except rotated. And it'd give a huge space for your fingers to move without blocking the screen at all.

Hell I just realized they could do it for a landscape mode with the other games too, just put the screen in the middle and leave space on both sides for controls.

Sorry, but no. These games are tiny as they are on the iPhone, even in large screen mode. Don't get me wrong, I'm worried of the vertical arrangement too -- I tend to control my ship by my right hand, while pushing buttons with my left, as in Espgaluda and DDP, so this might be a problem.
Plus the border is ugly as hell -- just wonder how well will it work in full screen mode (if they allow that).

Have you played any other hori shooters on iPhone? Flying Hamster comes to mind, it runs in full screen but the thumb used for movement ends up blocking some of the action a lot (and doesn't have nearly the amount of stuff from the left as Deathsmiles), I really wish they had a screen shrink/border option for it.
