I have a 64 GB iPad mini but I am having a very hard time managing storage. I want to delete games and apps but I'm worried that will lose my progress and I'm worried that an app or game will get a bad update that would ruin the game, ie adding ads, changing to free to play or balancing issues. I know that I can backup my ipad to my computer with iTunes. Does the backup keep the same version of the app even if a new version comes out. Also, can I pick and choose which app that I want to be restored rather than have everything sync? I would just like to be able to add games/apps back when I need them without syncing everything. I don't know what I should do. I'm at a point where I have so little free space that many games won't even play. :(

It is not possible to restore a single app from an iTunes or iCloud backup.
The backup does not save the version of the app (it does not save the app at all, only the app's data,
    see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946?locale=en_AU&viewlocale=en_AU)

There might be third party solutions (see the last post in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/18535535, or http://devblog.lcpdfr.com/2013/07/itunes-how-to-restore-only-one-application-data-even-if-application-was-not-synced/). Let me warn you: use these solutions at your own risk.

I have the exact same problem as you do and I believe the simplest way to handle the problem is to let go: since there are so many games, there is only a very slim chance that you'll go back to a game that you left aside for more than a month.

Thank you very much for all of this info. Android makes this so easy with titanium backup. To bad there is not any solution to this problem on ios. I'm glad you told me about that is does not save the app version because I was about to buy a 2 TB hd to download 5000+ apps on iTunes. Lol.

I agree ! I have 100's of games but now i'm 'finally' happy deleting games if i havent played them for a month. Think one problem is its tempting to 'horde' games on your iphone for months and months. If i lose my progress i lose it, if i havent played it for ages i dont care anymore now

Well to be precise you CAN backup previous versions of apps, just that it will be in a different process from the iTunes backup of your iPad.
    For instance: http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971543
    AND http://www.iphonehacks.com/2013/07/r...pp-itunes.html

Again: the iTunes backup of your iPad does not keep apps, so if you restore your iDevice you'll restore the apps' data but not the apps (which will be redownloaded or restored from the apps stored in iTunes).
SO if you keep older versions of the apps in iTunes you will be able to restore the apps in the version that is stored.

I backup all my apps on the cloud, eg MEGA you get 50 gig free, lots of other services are free. I'm actually pay for Pogoplug, very very cheap plus you get infinite space.

Its good you want to backup, lots of people dont backup anything then moan when they have to reset their phone and a lot of their apps have disappeared from the app store ! Always backup

I like Pogoplug as you can use your itunes vouchers to pay for it monthly (just a few dollars) so its not one big lump sum. Far cheaper than Dropbox and others, so far i've used 200 gig

This makes me laugh, I use an old 8 gig iPhone 4...

I guess it kinda forces me to manage space consistently, as I always contemplate whether to keep asphalt 8, as it gets frustrating at times.

Keep it, empty your browser history and use spotify to listen to music that would help you to conserve space
