I am really started to get annoyed by the lurkers that are on the 'Promo Code Giveaway' section. If you have ever looked at the bottom of the forums, you will see that over 3/4 of the people on this site are 'Guests'. AKA: Lurkers. They are always taking the codes that the actual members deserve. Take for example, I was on a a thread yesterday about promo codes. The developer posted a new batch of 10 promo codes on like the 3rd page. In about 3 minutes, all the codes where used and not one single member had used them. Is there any internet type thingy that could prevent these people from looking at the 'Promo Code Giveaway' section other than the TA members? It is not good for developers asking for reviews or ratings in return, because you know the lurkers will not write or rate at all!

I don't even go in that section. Or maybe like once every month. :p

I think we should talk to the mods about this...Limit the promocode section to TA members only. :D

That'd be waay better. Agreeing on this whole thread.

There should be a way where you have to login to retrieve promo codes.

Maybe if you are not logged in, you can't see them somehow?

Not sure if that's possible. I'm not talking white text either - something that's real.

This topic's actually been discussed many times. If lurkers had to create an account, we'd just have a whole bunch of members in the promo code section. If lurkers had to log in, that's the same thing. There's really no clear way - it'd be the same thing anyways.

I have an idea, I doubt it would work though. For the developers asking reviews and ratings in return, the people who get the codes have to sign a virtual TA thingy and if they do not write or rate after they sign it, they recieve an infraction? It's just a start.

That's too much work to implement. People would then start making multiple accounts after one has been locked, resulting in an even bigger headache.

And how would Junior and normal members become Senior members without being able to view the forums?

EDIT: Nvm, you only meant the promo code section of the forums.

@goldglover411: Everybody would post nonstop on random threads until they get 100 posts and become a senior member:eek:

@Kunning: Yeah, I guess your right:(

    Perv, why do you care?
Actually when I was a guest, I never took any promos but a flashcard app and a white noise app for my baby. I mostly looked at forums and stuff

Quick question: Are senior members developers or are they just people who are really active on TA?

As I said, they would rush to get 100 posts, thus becoming a senior member.

People with over 100 posts. So a Senior Member could just be a person who has just joined for 50 minutes.

I really think that's an awesome idea. I really, really hate lurkers. Nothing more annoying that going to get that code for a really awesome game, but you go there and the first reply is "Crap, all gone".

I like how some devs have you PM them or post there before they send you the code, or the contests that many devs have. But I particularly like this idea of having the section blocked off to lurkers.

Oh yeah, one other thing I've seen on other sites. Sometimes they'll have it so you have to "thank" the poster, or click a button on the post to make sure that you actually are a member. This way, lurkers can see the post and game info, but won't have access to the codes without joining. It may not completely eliminate the problem, but it would definetly help cut down on it.

But then again, I can't use promo codes, so who cares?
