If you are ready to manage with a small screen you should.

I would sell the iPad and get the iPhone 4 as the 2nd gen iPad will be coming out in the next 6-8 months and by then it'll be too late to try to sell the 1st gen iPad for a decent profit.

iPhone 4. More powerful, better graphics (partly due to retina display) and more features such as front and rear cameras and gyroscope.

No, when you take into account the screen size, the iPhone 4 comes out on top in terms of performance. It takes more power to push more pixels and some iPad games suffer as a result. If you go to the Epic Citadel thread you will see a comparison of two screenshots, the iPhone 4 one looks better because the game has higher quality textures. The developers had to decrease the texture quality for the iPad because otherwise the FPS would be unbearably low and/or it would crash.

It really boils down to what you want to use one or the other for the most. If you want to watch any sort of media (movies, pictures, tv shows, etc), browse the web along with certain games like RTS, then likely the iPad. If you value more portability and you don't see yourself using the extra screen real estate, then get the iPhone 4.

Base your decision on what you will be using it for the most and if you need the bigger screen or not.
