Man this one is really crap on a ipad2. I regret I took it just because of all the ravings on other sites! :-(

When folk say it looks good on an iPad always be mindful of if they mean a retina one or not as, yes, most iPhone games (iPhone retina or not) look like shoot in the original iPad res. :(

It got all so confusing with retina, retina2, mini, etc. etc.

I now hope for a fast universal version. I guess I should have picked dominant species instead.

I read on BBG or Pocket Tactics that the implementation of DS is poor and confusing.

I have the iPad3 and man, this one is fun to play, easier to grab than Le Havre. Wifie has the Mini and she does not like the 2x view. So I guess we all have to wait till it goes universal.

BTW, anyone up for a MP? My GCID is griffin611

    Just downloaded...

This is the first iPhone game that is just unreadable on my iPad. None of the other iPhone games have this problem. I think it might be due to the font used in Stone Age.

Yeah, same here. I had read that this game looked great on an ipad at 2x, but that's retina displays only. Looks pretty awful on my ipad 2. The universal update is supposedly due out in March. Sadly, I'll have to wait until then to really get into it much.

Universal update out. It looks really good on my iPad 2. Unfortunately I still suck at it horribly.

    Redownloading...

Finally played my first game of Stone Age. I won or lost? The crown was on my guy so I thought I was winning so I built the last hut, then when the game tallied up the totals, it seemed like the AI had higher numbers than me in all the categories...

I can't recall, does the game do any career stat tracking/ELO for games vs. the AI?

If Stone Age tracks ELO, then I haven't noticed. After my first game, there was no mention of any ELO increase or decrease to either my avatar or the AI, unlike in the Knizia games like Kingdoms where it is clearly and explicitly shown.

    Anyway deleted...

Hey IiG, I don't think that was the game glitching out on you, but just like say Ascension where there are the points you make in game, and as I recall with this game, the vast majority of points you make at the end via bonuses from specialists. So, if I heard you right, you out gunned the AI with your in-game points but they beat you post game via their specialist bonuses.

Now that this is universal I'm going to make some time to learn this game.

Oh, so the crown on my colour indicated I was leading pre-final tally? Interesting. I might just have to reinstall to examine Stone Age further...

Yeah, just like most of the board games out there, you might be able to sneak a peek at how your post game bonuses are stacking up at any point, but will need to actually pay close attention to your opponent's collected specialists to see where they stand.

Are you allowed to see opponents' acquired specialists in-game (other than when first collected)?

It was the first time I actually managed to play Stone Age, despite having bought it when it was released for iPhone, so I just did what the tutorial told me to and when the tutorial ended and let me play on, I just more or less continued doing what the tutorial told me to do.

Is it my imagination or does the type of resources to build a hut change? I built one of those on the left, but the next time I tried to build another, it seemed to ask for different types of resources. I think a lot of these questions can be solved by reading the manual, which I would do after checking out the Japanese translated version of Wizardry. Watching Matt Plays and reading the CRPG Addicts blog sort of rekindled my interest in dungeon crawling at this point...

What is required to build each hut definitely changes with each instance! Just like the traders, which hut blueprints show up at any given moment is based on a draw from the hut deck (also, much like the traders, you're not likely to see all possibilities in a single game). The idea being that the reward you get for making the hut should correspond to its difficulty in creating. The one built primarily from 3 gold is worth a lot more victory points than the one you could whip out with 3 wood.

Just gave this a try. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same useless tutorial that all these board game conversions fail at.

It's great at telling you what to do, but it never tells you WHY. On my first turn, I am given the option to either grow food, make more workers or make a tool. The first two seem like obviously good choices, while the third one seems pretty weak. However, the tutorial selects tool construction as my first play.

So now it's time to go learn how to play somewhere else. Again. like I did with Elder Signs, Ghost Stories, and Titan HD.

    Rant/Off

If you find a good tutorial, Youtube or otherwise, share her. I am stuck on Stonge Age as well...

Have you guys listened to Ryan Sturm's How to Play Podcast on Stone Age? I found it helpful.
