    Hi everyone,

I wanted to announce a game I'm currently developing for the iPhone and iPod Touch called Alien Space. The game is a dual-stick space shooter and will feature:

    -30 levels
    -survival mode
    -various light and heavy weapons
    -upgradeable weapons and ship systems
    -OpenFeint leaderboards and achievements
    -awesome 3D graphics
    -precise controls
-runs on any generation iPhone and iPod Touch!
-lots and lots of stuff to blow up!

    Here's the trailer:

The old preview trailer can also be seen on YouTube:

There's also a Facebook page with more information and screenshots, and the latest updates will be posted there.

Feel free to post here with feedback or questions about the game.

    Thank you. =)

Edit: Added new gameplay trailer and updated game description. Enjoy!

Looks great. May I ask what that button above the right analog is?

    Answering a couple of questions:

When will the game be available? Right now I plan to have it finished by the end of July. I'm working on the game basically in my spare time, so there is some chance that the schedule will shift a bit. =) But, that's the plan.

What the hud? The button bottom-left from the right stick (fire direction control) is the bomb-drop button. You can collect bombs as you play, they are dropped every now and then when you kill enemies. The button top-right from the fire control is the weapon toggle. Before you go into a level you can upgrade your ship and select which light and heavy weapons to use. This button switches between those two, and displays the icon for the weapon type.

Light/Heavy weapons: The energy bar top-right is your energy generator. Light weapons are powered from this. Heavy weapons, on the other hand, all have limited ammo. You can pick up ammo when you kill enemies, and when you are using your heavy weapon the top-right will display how much ammo you have instead of how much energy.

    I hope that helps. Thanks!

I am really liking the way this game is looking. I think it is done really well and has something going for it that many games lack. The graphics and gameplay are looking superb. The sound effects are good as well. The music that is in the video seems nice too.

@AlienSpace - If you are an independent developer, Bravo, if not, this is still really nice.

Eitherway, I think I have to buy this when it comes out.

It looks really nice, hopefully you will allow me to write a preview article for this :)

kind of reminds me of space miner but with better particle effects and splosions.

I really appreciate the great feedback from you guys and I'm glad that people seem to be liking the screenshots and video.

A bit more info on the games development: I've been working on this for about a year and a half in my spare time. The art, design, and programming are all 100% done by me. I cant claim credit for the music, however. The game music and what you heard in the trailer are licensed from the guys at SoundRangers.com.

Another question that came up was what service Alien Space will use for leaderboards. Right now I'm planning to use Apple's new Game Center, but I havent had a chance to test it yet. Originally I was going to go with OpenFeint, and if for some reason Game Center doesnt work out that might still be the backup option.

I read Openfeint was Game Center compatible. So both can be implemented.

ehh thats arguable, I actually have an "interview" lined up with him, and one of the questions i asked was how this differs or what sets it apart from Space Miner, I really would like to see something very original here rather than a highly similar Space Miner game.

    'm impartial to plus+ so i'd rather plus+ (naturally)
    openfeint is cool too though.

  18. The Alien Space trailer looks great! Looking forward to playing it.

I have a couple of games that use plus+ and I do like it, maybe even more than OpenFeint. Still, each of these have their own problems. I'm hoping Game Center will solve those problems and give us a more universal and well thought out interface. The current situation of so many different services, each with different log-in accounts and all that, that's just way too clunky. We need something like Xbox Live where you dont have to log into it every time you go into a game, it's just there, and every game works with it. I'm hoping Game Center will bring us to that point.

I have to say that GameCenter is looking like a good unified service.
and I think that this game is too good for open feint and it doesn't really fit with the other services any better.
So why not give GameCenter a shot and if you have to use a backup, then how about Crystal?
