I've been playing Melodive (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=180897) quite a lot today, and it got me thinking about what other similar experiences there might be on the App Store.

What I'm looking for specifically is the kind of app that you can get lost in, particularly while listening to music. I can be either a tech demo, music app or a game, but if it's a game it shouldn't be complicated to the point where it requires too much concentration. Something like Geometry Wars is an ideal example; bright and intense visuals and you can zone out while you play.

Oh, and this is gonna narrow it down a lot, but iPad retina support would be ideal. The entire point is getting lost in the visuals, so they really should be attractive to look at and I'm not a fan of blurry assets.

    Anyone got some good suggestions?

Gonna have to look through our iPad library, but for now I'm gonna say Windosill and Deflex's title screen. ;)

I was expecting someone to mention Llamasoft before long :)

Windosill looks ace, I'm probably gonna check that out.

Hmm... I guess these might fit the bill:

    Forget.Me.Not
    infinite
    Beat Hazard Ultra

Beat Hazard Ultra is a dual stick shooter kinda like Geometry Wars, heavy emphasis on music (I find it easy to zone out to, personally) XD

Edit: not sure about which of these is Retina by the way, sorry :C

Ah yes, Beat Hazard Ultra, I used to have that on my iPod, thanks for the reminder! Infinite looks like it has potential, adding that to my watchlist too.

Yep, anything by Minter on Llamasoft and I smiled at the mescaline part of Jool.

Would anyone recommend Super Crossfire HD? It looks trippy enough but if it's too difficult then I'm not sure how much you can zone out playing it.

Edit: I also found Infinitum and Thred through Google searches, kinda neat tunnel games with trippy/dream-like visuals.

Sorry to bump this but I'd been wondering the same thing- pretty much like the OP said. Any recent titles that fit the bill..?

Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery sort of does the job, although I've got stuck in it and probably need top consult a walkthrough, which is an un-trippy an experience as you can get... :)
