An Android exclusive which is still in active development, as per the usual Trese Brothers' development routines, which are: launch a beta, engage with the community, update several times a week.

Play Store link for the regular version (Free)
Play Store link for the Elite version (Paid)

The free version doesn't have any ads, and allows you to play pretty much the game to completion. I know it has less content than the Elite version, but I can't say I know the details - less weapons and equipment, I believe, and less campaign missions.

Templar Assault is, putting it simply, an excellent squad-based tactical game like old-school Space Hulk. The gist from the store is:

Some people might be dissuaded by the art style, but that being said, I can't recommend enough all of their games - Star Traders RPG (which is also available on iOS), Cyber Knights RPG, Templar Assault, and their new Kickstarter for Heroes of Steel, which would be a similar fantasy-based tactical RPG, looks quite promising. They also react very well to the community, and include several of the feedback on their very frequent update.

And, as an added thing, if you buy the full version but don't like it, the developers provide their email addresses in the game description, and will honor any request for a refund after the 15-minute window Google allows. If that doesn't tell you how serious these two indie brothers are in terms of their commitment and love for their games, I have a hard time making my case :)

I'll try to create threads for the three of these games, though the gist will be pretty similar.

Hope this helps starting the discussion around these :)

    Cheers,
    Paulo

We've got a fourth gaming coming, if you see my sig.

I have tried to play the game again recently, but find that I must really suck at it, since I keep dying on the second mission... Am I missing something?

Any tips would be excellent - I usually have trouble with running out of ammo, and with what appear to be infinitely respawning enemies... I usually break my group in two small groups of two Templars, but that doesn't really work well. I could take them all together, but 4 guys in a row in a single-width corridor seems like a waste?

    Cheers,

    Paulo

@pjft - which level are you struggling with? Every Templar level is a race against time (being overwhelmed, running out of ammo) so you have to move quickly, but still maintain a tight enough defensive formation that the enemy can't get to you.

Your Templar Soldiers, Scouts, and Captain are highly trained and can exercise a unique Templar fighting technique called Phalanx Fire, which allows them to fire past a battle brother in tight hallways. So, use that to your advantage when traveling together. Two Templar stacked up and facing forward can provide a powerful defensive with their guns blazing.

Also, there are items you can buy in the armory, such as a Relic Ammo Kits, which will distribute extra equipment to your Templars for a single level. Try these out!

Finally, Templars has a =very= serious difficulty scale, so play at the level that is fun and where you can win until you get your skills up. I actually spent the last two weeks trying to beat the Vengeance campaign on Brutal and still haven't cleared all the levels!

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. It's actually very shameful, but I'm just in the start of the game, in "The Gauntlet" stage, playing in Normal, I believe. The issue is that there seems to be a secondary objective for the level which is "Destroy all Xenos", so I end up believing that it is something that I am meant to attain at this point of development of my Templar squad. That being said, very often it just seems that Xenos keep on coming out from the same entry point, like 10+ just from one entry point, so I do wonder if I'm doing well in trying to go for both objectives, or I should just focus on the main goal.

    Cheers,
    Paulo

@pjft - ahhh, I see. We have had some feedback that those messages are confusing in the game details. Sorry! That secondary objective flavor and not an actual level requirement. Focus on the primary and kill any xenos that get in the way! The xenos are just going to keep coming forever! If you have a level where you have to kill a certain amount, it will be clearly stated (kill 25).

The next release of Templar Assault is introducing some standardization of the briefings and the maps that they use to make objectives more clear, so hopefully this will start to help.

Oh, I see. Well, since it was a secondary objective, I though it would be attainable. I guess that that is not the case, and they will always keep on coming - then I'll just plow through them.

What should I make of secondary objectives, then? Are they sometimes not attainable? Is that even desirable?

    Cheers, and thanks :)

    P.S. - How's Heroes of Steel going?

@pjft - we should have a HoS update out tonight or tomorrow hopefully!

The secondary objectives are often more suggestions ("Keep your Templars alive"). We are working on making this part more clear, because rarely do they have real game meaning. Sometimes they help highlight potential Easter eggs that you could snag in later levels and campaigns.

Oh wow - great! I just saw the update, it looks excellent :)

Thanks for the tip on Templar Assault, I'll just ignore this then, since it apparently is not possible to kill all enemies in this scenario. :)

Cheers, and keep up the good work!

Templar Assault v1.4.9 was just released to the Android markets last night in part of a "triple-release" effort in which all three of our games received awesome new updates.

We've done some work polishing the touch UI to make it easier to use and are also trying out a new standard set of markings for map briefings. Check them out and let us know if you find them better. We are considering the sprint to push the new markings to all 101 levels!

Please Leave a 5 Star Rating if you enjoy this game.
    v1.4.9 - 3/12/2013
    - New Region Briefings: Vestmarch Burns Campagin
    - New Region Briefings: Siege of Vestmarch Campaign
    - New Region Briefings: Secrets of a Dark Age
    - New Weapon: Doom Axe
    - New Shield: Drakos Shield
    - Improved HUD Touch Response Features
    - Improved 'Switch Weapon' with Shields

I killed 87 xenos today trying to achieve that secondary objective! I was starting to suspect that they were going to just keep coming, and decided i'd quit at 100, but then my captain died anyway.

You definitely need to make that a bit clearer, as it's quite misleading.

@droid - thanks for the feedback! Right now we are cranking through making all the map Drop-off, Extraction, and Objectives clearer, and then we will execute a massive round-up on all the map text to make sure they are clear, not misleading, and don't state confusing secondary objectives.

Have you seen the new map briefing style in the Vestmarch campaigns? We'd love your feedback. Next release will change the icon for the objectives to something more clear, and also add a legend to every map so that the symbols are very obvious.

No, I don't think so, as i've just recently started playing.
I only have the free version at the moment, but I will definitely be buying the full game, as i've enjoyed it so far.
I'll probably wait for the next updated release before purchasing though.

    Amazon verzion for Kindle Fire

I just got this and I have really liked the game so far but I had one concern (common to Amazon) in that the detailed patch log looked fantastic but ended in January and I just bought this game yesterday and wondered about current and future patch releases supporting the KF. There is another fantastic game (Battleheart) that seems set adrift in the Amazon wasteland of dated apps.

Any feedback on this hopefully as you guys have made a really fun game and i look forward to what you do with it.

    Thanks

@Focault - we update Templar Assault almost weekly, so it is not a game set adrift. In fact, TA v1.4.11 was just released yesterday! Can you point me at the place where the change log felt dated, so I can work on resolving that? On the Amazon website it seems to be correctly up to date. I can check specifically about KF support tasks that we have upcoming and get back to you. It doesn't look like v1.4.11 has made it Amazon yet (awaiting review).

Enjoy v1.4.11! "A new release of our turn based tactical combat game, Templar Assault RPG, has been release for Android. Templar Assault provides squad based combat simulations set in a distant sci-fi universe. Take command of your team of augmented super-soldiers and purge the xeno!

This update to the game (the second this week) provides some excellent new content and features. There is a new weapon (the 'Devastator Ax') for your Berserker Knights and two new items. The new items are ammunition kits for your weapon specialists -- both the Hydra Knight and the Neptune Knight."

    v1.4.11 - 3/17/2013
    - Added Legend to New Region Briefings
    - New Region Briefings: Vengeance of Templar Campaign
    - New Weapon: Devestator Ax
    - New Shield: Null Shield
    - New Item: Hydra Ammo Kits
    - New Item: Neptune Ammo Kits
    - Fixed Normal Ammo Kit Artwork

I will check and then update the thread after work.

The last update listed in the game was the berzerker class addition (1/27 I believe or right around there) and the berzerker wasn't even listed in the Help section which described the other classes although there was berzerker-specific gear in the weapon list.

I'll get full details later today but I just purchased the game this weekend so it most likely should be the most current version.

@danielsefer - we'd love any suggestions you have on how to make it better or what additions you'd like to see. We are the type of dev team that will make it happen!

@focault - thanks, please post a link and we will try to figure it out. The Amazon version has been receiving weekly updates all year, pretty consistently. What is the version you see posted on the front page of the game when you open it?

    v1.4.7 on front page

    Under Help tab

    Patch Log
v1.3.1 - 1/27/2013 is the last Patch update listed

So it looks like version might be one (v1.4.9) [Now two with 1.4.11] behind and mainly just the Patch Log listing a bit more behind on the Amazon version I got.

Thanks for working on the game as it has been fun so far.
