Saw this in the new app list and couldn't find a thread for it. I've only played it for a few minutes, but so far it looks like a serious effort. Will post more impressions later tonight. AppModo: Have you ever thought about what it would be like if you were a monster truck driver? Well now you can see! MonsterTruck Rally is a fun racing game for everyone!.... I recommend this game to anyone who likes a fun/hard racing game. AppAdvice: If racing large trucks with gigantic tires is your thing, MonsterTruck Rally for the iPhone and iPod touch is sure to please. TouchReviews: The 3D graphics are stunning and offers high quality gameplay. It also as all the right sound effects with brakes screeching and the trucks engine sounds. AppSafari: ...Monster Truck Rally is definitely a fun monster truck racing game…The graphics of the game are pretty good- I appreciate the truck graphics themselves much more than the course graphics, though. The sounds and music are completely appropriate for a monster truck game- rock music, loud engines, etc. I really like the 3 different viewing options.. AppSmile: MonsterTruck Rally is a new racing title that had us muddying up our iPhone screens in no time flat.…Graphically, MonsterTruck Rally is impressive. The tracks are very well designed, all sporting unique environments. The trucks look huge and imposing with 3D flare. Our favorite aspect of the game was how the trucks interact with the surroundings. Launching of jumps or hitting obsticals can create some serious air-time. Landing back on the ground will throw the track into a bounce fest. We loved these physics based visuals. AppVersity: When I first entered the Career mode, the first thing I noticed was the amount of polish that the developers have put into the game. The 3D environment and cars look beautiful as you race down the track. The wheels turn like they should, and objects on the track do not allow the truck to simply pass through them. The cockpit view is very similar to that of Real Racing’s TheAppera: …This makes this game very nice, both graphically and in gameplay. One can truly appreciate this game as pioneering a new genre of racers on the iPhone. **************************************** Choose your Monster Truck between Total Destroyer,Monster Crusher,T-Rex Butcher,Sasquatch and Black Mamba! But not many trucks or track, still looks good though squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,551 1,080 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #10 squarezero, Mar 23, 2010 Yeah, it's a fairly small game: trucks are not customizable, only 5 tracks, 3 competitor at a time, the career mode is not very robust, tilt to steer only. However, the tracks are long and look pretty darn good -- a little pop-in, but not distracting. Truck physics seems good to me, and especially fun in cockpit view. Frame rate on my 3Gs looked about 30 fps -- not bad, but not Real Racing good. Haven't been able to race anyone online yet, but connecting via wireless and 3G was easy. It feels like a good indie effort, rather than a major-publisher title. Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #11 Gabrien, Mar 23, 2010 Having the same problem with iDerby. I used to get excited about a game having online mode, now I just look at the price and wonder what's the point. Anything above 99c for a "no-name" game/publisher and it's almost guaranteed there won't be anybody to play with. Anyhow. Interested in this, but rolleyes need a video. Or some really excellent impressions. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,551 1,080 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #12 squarezero, Mar 23, 2010 To be fair, MonsterTruck Rally released less than an hour ago, so it's not surprising the servers are empty. We'll see how it's doing in the next couple of days. The game is not perfect, but I like the physics better than 4x4 Jam (which is good, but a bit too damn bouncy for my tastes), and it has real tracks rather than just flags. rIcHrAnDoM Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Nov 17, 2008 7,936 30 38 Steelworker/Welder Indiana, USA #13 rIcHrAnDoM, Mar 23, 2010 Last edited: Mar 23, 2010 I'd imagine (hope ) that there will be a decent ammount of interest in this so as to produce a nice ammount of online competition. A few points that make me happy to have spent my last 3 iDollars on this: Auto-accelerate is optional. There are online race statistics including leaderboards. The graphics are nice. While you cannot "free roam", there is enough off-the-track area to use strategically. Besides the starters, all cars and tracks are locked, giving me incentive to play career mode. Internet multiplayer is Edge/3G accessable! As squarezero stated it doesn't have all the options and upgrades that say a Gameloft racer would offer, but it's $3 and for me, not having to worry about wifi is worth the cash. The vehicles handle like trucks: the suspension system works like you would expect, they accelerate slowly and have a ton of momentum. Now, the track don't have tons of jumps and you don't go off road, so in that sense, yeah, they could have pushed things further. But it definitely does not play like a car racer. I hope either the devs see this thread or get their site functional. I'd love to see just such utilization of these monster trucks on smaller "stunt" jump tracks; car, bus and raw earth being crushed beneath the behemoth tires.
