Well i've sent my Android phone back, just waiting for the refund. In the meantime i've managed to get my wifes phone (iphone 4s) which is making a huge difference as i'm playing a lot more games which didnt work on my old iphone 4 now.

I'm going to get a cheap Android tablet though for emulators and a few other Android only games

Cant get rid of my iphone ! Got too many apps i love on it !

Best device for emulators is iPad/iPhone. Only issue is you must jailbreak. But performance-wise games run better on ios. Right now I'm playing N64 full speed on 5s. Killer Instinct Gold runs flawlessly @ 40~60 fps :)

What sort of emulators will run on this Android spec ?

    1.5GHz A9 Quad-core processor
    1GB RAM
    Mali 400 Quad core GPU

    N64/DS/PSP ?

All three emu mentioned by you will run fine on those android specs. But N64 (mupen64plus) May need updating by the dev. Right now only the 5s is running N64 with more framerates. Just wait for optimisations.

But make sure that android device has OpenGL 3.0 or you wi experience slower speeds.

Cheers, i'll probably buy it soon. Must admit i'll mainly want it for older emulation (original Gameboy etc) and i presume a fair few will work with my iCade. Should be fun testing it out

Better than Android? Android runs emus, pretty nicely.

Especially on something like the Nvidia Shield.

N64/DS/PSP and below all on one device? Sooo good.

ooO yeah Dreamcast, I forgot about that. Reicast runs really well.

Dolphin doesn't run very well on anything mobile at the moment, but portable Tales of Symphonia would be my ultimate emulation dream.

Was reading a new version of retroarch just came onto the play store, never used it but it sounds pretty good and looks to emulate a lot of systems in one app.

Might install it myself and give it a trial.

Because you're invested in iOS as previously suggested having your tab as an iPad and phone as a whatever you fancy works well and is the most economical, unless you prefer the smaller screen to be your main device.

Love the galaxy s3 and the android os, but this site and the games ensure there is an ipad in my life. If porn won the VHS/beta battle, games have kept mobile idevices on top.

Well i've got my wifes old iphone 4s which is far quicker than my old iphone 4 so thats good.

I returned the Samsung mobile i had, i've just got tooo many apps on iOS and when i'm out i love having the majority with me on my phone.

But i'm about to buy a cheap Android tablet, i've got some vouchers so it'll only cost me £80. I'm sure it'll run old emulators fine so that'll do me. If i enjoy it over the year i'll probably get a better one at some point. But i must admit my small trip down memory lane playing Quake II/dosbox on the Android phone (i had for 2 days !) does make me want to play them again.

Be sure to do some research on the tablet you buy. I find there is a huge, huge quality difference between them, even when the specs at first glance don't seem all that different. Also consider what size you want, or if you want to use an external controller or something like that. I don't love the touchscreen controls on most emulated games on a 10" tablet, so that's something to consider.

Got myself the Xperia Z1 last Christmas for my work #. iPhone 5's my main and personal phone because of years of investing on apps. I now wish that the iPhone had a slightly bigger screen. I still keep an iPad for entertainment. Gotta love that large screen!

I also wish iOS would open up some more to more freely allow customization and file management.

Well the one i'm looking at is the Tesco Hudl, its only £119, i can put some vouchers towards it which will be doubled so it'll cost me £80 which sounds a bargain. Its got decent reviews, its not groundbreaking or that but i think it'll do me. Cant complain for £80

In quite a few reviews its done quite well, i think for what i want (Basic emulators - Gameboy/Spectrum/Quake) it'll be fine.

In an ideal world i'll get a more expensive better one but as Echoen said i've put so much money into iOS gaming i have to stick with it as my main devices (got an iphone/ipod touch/ipad). So i'll try out a cheap Android tablet.

But i'm looking forward to trying out dosbox and a few other emulators, plus Ikaruga is on Android and sadly not ios

Sounds fine indeed! Don't know how it is where you live, but around here Android tablets are everywhere and people buy them in supermarkets and such, thinking they got a great deal, and then finding that it sucks. Not just "well, it's not great, but for the price is nice" but truly unworkably sucky. Crashes, ultra-mega slow app startup time, constant wifi losses, battery that lasts for an hour or so, things like that. So, I wanted to warn you away from that kind of an experience. I agree with you that any tablet that got decent reviews should be good enough. You may even find that you don't really need something better at all.

It is?! I didn't know that. How weird that they didn't make that cross platform. Just checked it out. Interesting how they market it as "Xbox live arcade shooter" instead of "Dreamcast hit". I guess I really am getting old :)

Well in the UK lots of the supermarkets are releasing cheap tablets as theres a bit of a 'war' going on. Asda released one for 99.99 which does seem quite cheap/poor reviews, Tescos Hudl was £119, 16 gig, you can add a 32 gig sd mini card so i'll do that

I've checked out the reviews on youtube/Watchdog/BBC1 and the Hudl seems to win the cheap tablet wars. The problem is part of me thinks £30 more will get me a Samsung one (Which Tesco are now selling) but then when do i stop thinking 'then just £20 will give me the...' etc !

As i can use vouchers (and double them) towards the Hudl i think i'll get that for £80. I'm not bothered if it doesnt run the latest Android games (i play the latest ones on my ipad/ipod) i just want it to run some good old classic emulators. I do love iOS but i do dearly miss my emulators (And Quake 2) !

  18. What are these vouchers you keep mentioning? How do you get discounts?

I live in the uk. Didn't realise I had £15 worth of tescos vouchers. They're trying to sell tons of Hudls so at the moment so they're doubling the clubcard vouchers if you buy a hudl so I've got £30 worth of vouchers.

Just ordered and getting it Thursday evening
