When buying games I've learned over the years to appreciate the fullness of most games downloaded. I might not completely finish a game but will feel a sense of satisfaction of spent time playing instead of a rushed feeling to get through it before moving on.
Got tired of the frantic paced buys and quick plays so I'll still buy what is of interest and most often slid them into a special folder until I'm finished with a current one (at times might boot it up for not even a minute to be sure it plays ok). I realized my actual gaming was being jeopardize from the overwhelming wave of constant inflow of games so my approcach now is more of a disciplined standard.

I am the same way I think my problem is that new games come out every week and I'm constantly buying new games and having to delete old ones to make room lol the games I never delete though are the crafting sandbox games so minecraft, terraria, and junk jack x have never gone anywhere and I always go back to them. I also tend to go back to my rougelike dungeon crawler games (quadropus rampage, dungeonism)

I used to be like that. Now I only play one deep game at a time. Since then, I have finished a lot of great iOS games.

At the moment I am playing Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies. Currently on the fourth case, so I am probably finishing it soon. Then, I am moving to Bastion.

I won't buy newer games unless I clean up most of my (long) backlog.

I need to start doing this but it's hard. When I was buying $60 console games I would have maybe 2 or 3 games at a time and would play one to completion before buying another. When I got stuck on a game I would keep trying until I figured it out. Now when I get stuck on a game or if I have to grind on an RPG it's so easy to just jump to another game and then another and another. Before I know it, I haven't played that first game I was stuck on for a couple months and it's hard to get back into it.

I couldn't get into Bastion. Let me know what you think of it.

The main problem is sales. Steam, iOS, 3DS, etc. I want it in some degree so why not get it cheap? Problem is I never play it. I plan on it but oh look ANOTHER sale on another platform

It's a relief to see that I am not alone with this! I have a ton of games in my backlog, but I finish almost none of them. What I'll mostly do is this:

Download as many great games I already bought as I can (iPad with 32 GB)
Play none of them
Delete them all, maybe keep one and Hearthstone
(And now comes the weird thing): Become interested again in all the cool games I own
Start the cycle again

There are a few games I must have downloaded and deleted up to 20 times, like KOTOR, XCOM, Banner Saga, Bastion, Baldur's Gate I&II, Shadowmatic, Tera Battle, Galaxy Trucker, The Walking Dead, 80 Days and many, many more.....

The process of limiting oneself and setting rules as described above seems promising. I don't want to be a hoarder, but I am.
Oh no, I can feel the power of the cycle again, telling me to delete all my games.....

Yes, we are simply overfed. There's too much offered on a daily base. Our attention span on a game lasts days only. Most games from this week are forgotten next week. As I had my C64, I've played Elite for months. Simply because there wasn't something else. Pool of Radiance? Played through it thrice. Good games came out a few times a year at that time so you were stuck with your precious collection.
My most horrible gaming moments are after the Steam holiday sales, 3-4 times a year. Bought 4-5 new games for 20,- €... but which one to play first? Talk about first world problems...

Hi, you seemed to be lost on the Internets.
This is TouchArcade, where 2$ for a game is too much, 5$ is an outrage, and 10$ or more is putting sugar in their car tanks whilst killing puppies.
