    Firmware 2.2 was released late on November 20th, 2008 (PST).

    Does Firmware 2.2 cost anything?

    No, this update is free as long as you have purchased the Firmware 2.0 update initially.

    Is Firmware 2.2 jailbroken?

    Yes, Firmware 2.2 is jailbroken. You can use PwnageTool or QuickPwn for Mac, and QuickPwn for Windows.

    Is Firmware 2.2 compatible with my device?

    Firmware 2.2 is compatible with 1st-gen iPod touch, 2nd-gen iPod touch, iPhone and iPhone 3G.

    What is new in Firmware 2.2?

    Improved Maps application:

    Note: All Maps updates have been reported not to be included in the iPod touch versions of Firmware 2.2. This is currently for iPhone users only.

    The headphone jack now supports line-in audio.
    - Compatible with iPod touch 2G, iPhone and iPhone 3G only. The ability to record audio through the headphone jack.
    Safari address bar has changed, separating Google Search to a separate bubble.

    Turn On/Off the keyboard auto correction/spell check via Settings.

    More languages are supported. Specific languages not known.
    Download podcasts on-the-go through Wi-Fi iTunes Store on iPod/iPhone.

    You can rate applications before deletion

    Addition of "Tell a Friend" and "Report a Problem" on app pages

    Categories section now shows icons rather than a list

    Japanese emoji icons (Japanese emoticons) are now supported. The exact number of emoticons is believed to be 461. These can be included in email. Not confirmed about use of these in notes, etc. Note: This is for Japanese users only.
