Sorry, would have posted this last night but I was in time out. Anyway, this is an utterly unique (to me at least) generative music synth that's programmable. It is either one of the most beautiful or ugliest synth apps I've played with...still haven't decided which . It is tricky, but seems to have a lot to offer. "who needs an arp when you have #glitchmachine" -- @DjAero Glitch Machine is a generative music synthesizer. Expressions are edited live to produce sound interactively. The magic of Glitch Machine's synthesis is in the BYTE, which wraps a final output value to a number between 0 - 255. The repeating patterns (or chaos) of this 'wrapping' produces waveforms and beats. Features: - Interactive, live code editing, code line muting - Waveform and data visualizations - Live performance features such as XY pads, sliders, and code preset triggers - Fast-forward, rewind, pause, and single-step through your expression's waveform - 100 levels of undo/redo - Saved custom sessions - Expression sharing via email and Twitter - WAV export to iTunes - Save and load expressions - Supports all device orientations - Configurable theme Information Seller:Madgarden Genre: Release:Dec 02, 2011 Updated:Oct 22, 2012 Version:1.2 Size:305.2 kB TouchArcade Rating:Unrated User Rating: (2) Your Rating:unrated Compatibility:HD Universal LOLavi Well-Known Member May 23, 2011 8,364 0 0 iPhone gamer Finland #2 LOLavi, Dec 1, 2012 Did Deadmau5 seriously try this? repapermunky Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 624 0 0 #3 repapermunky, Dec 1, 2012 One of the examples within the app is close encounters... If I was Deadmau5, I think I would be getting codes for nearly every app like this. Which would be wonderful . I would probably spend all my forum time on the imaginary TouchArpade instead of here. DJ Aero discovered it upon release and sent it on to him. Even got a nice RT on Twitter from deadmau5, that helped a lot with exposure, heh. It's definitely "non-standard" and experimental. That's just how I roll. But "bytebeat" is a relatively new musical concept (released this app about a month after the first bytebeat articles went live in Sept 2011.) If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help! Greyskull Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2009 5,588 1 38 Photographer/Social Sciences adjunct/sweet sweet l Fort Lauderdale #13 Greyskull, Dec 2, 2012 Erm...could you point me to some articles regarding "bytebeat". I'de like to have a more in depth understanding of what, exactly, the numerical string affects, in a harmonic sense. I know that all electronically generated music (and, for that matter, music played back on optical or magnetic media) is, boiled down to its essence, 0's and 1's. But coming from the world of acoustic-electric musicianship (with no background in audio engineering...we paid people to put noises on DAT tapes back when I actively played), I'm still trying to wrap my brain around everything. And every time I figure something out, I find another thing that baffles and befuddles me . Actually, seeing your profile and what you've worked on, I could question you for hours. Though I doubt you'de enjoy recieving a Master's thesis sized PM in your inbox. Madgarden Well-Known Member Mar 10, 2009 1,681 2 0 Galactic Game Creation Overlord Kitchener, ON http://www.madgarden.net #14 Madgarden, Dec 2, 2012 This is probably the best launching point for bytebeat on the web: http://canonical.org/~kragen/bytebeat/ Most of those guys are way smarter than myself mathematically, so they can explain things much better than I could. All that the "numerical string" does is calculate an output value based on the the inputs you provide it, the most important of which is 't'... or "ticks" (time). The resulting value's 8 least-significant bits are output as an audio sample. This happens 8000 times per second. How you create harmonics from that is up to the math (see Kragen's links above). Though I find simple experimentation combined with the basic mixing/filtering concepts has yielded my most interesting results. Now, my method of bytebeat is perhaps more nonstandard than the rest, as I use RPN (which I feel is a more logical concatenative pipeline-like fit). Though others have adopted this mechanic as well... some of the online bytebeat generators will take RPN or glitchmachine:// url's as input. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
