Can be an action RPG, turn based, or whatever. For any system, whether it be a console or portable system. Can also be a series. I'm gonna have to go with the Golden Sun series for Gameboy Advance. They were some of the most fantastic games I have ever played, with phenominal graphics, gameplay and story.
Hard to decide, but if I had to choose it would be Tales of Symphonia for the GC. Other contenders would be: Baten Kaitos 1+2 Chrono Trigger The World Ends With You Mass Effect Eternal Sonata Kingdom Hearts 1+2 Pokemon Series
Honestly since xenogears, I haven't played a single RPG that has compared. And since FFVII, I haven't played a single RPG that has compared.
Yeah, FFVII was what got me back into gaming after a looong time... I saw the commercial on TV of a cut-scene and I had to know what it was about. But Xenogears was a complete surprise... It didn't have any hype... And the battle system was so much fun!
I remember reading about xenogears, and how it would never make it to our shores due to the sensitive subject matter.... I got it the day it came out. ****ing classic. Still have it....wish I could say the same about FFVII
My favorite is still Morrowind. Not necessarily because it's the best, but it's the first I played. The story has great depth, and I loved all the exploring and reading books that was involved. I guess that's just the history nerd in me talking!
Morrowind, Oblivion and the first two Fallout. Final Fantasy 9 was the best IMHO, Baldur's gate one and two also.
Final Fantasy 9! That was my FAVORITE Final Fantasy game EVER! *more hearts in eyes* So many awesome people here!
I can't say if Morrowind is the best RPG I've played, but that's the first one I'd pick as my favorite. The sheer immersion of the game is incredible. It just has so much atmosphere- great environments, lots of stuff to explore. Unlike other games, I didn't mind wandering around not knowing precisely where I was going- wandering is fun in and of itself! Not to mention some of the mods that people made which added a lot to the game- one even added a Stargate in Seyda Neen and another in Balmora. Now I should really go back to that game and actually finish it at some point...
That would be one of my choices too. One of the most moving RPGs ever, with excellent soundtracks. Unfortunately Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk is such a horrible sequel... they practically messed up every single element in the game except graphics. They copied all the soundtracks from the first game, deleted so many skills, skill combinations, unison attack combinations, the entire world map, the ability to jump in battle, and so much more. >.> Other choices: - 仙剑奇侠传 Legend of Sword and Fairy~ king of RPGs and predecessor to all turn-based RPGs - Eternal Sonata - Koei's Sangokushi historical simulation series - Final Fantasy - Fantasy Sangokushi For iPhone it would be Zenonia and Inotia 2 so far.
That's the other great thing about this game! I never finished it either and I don't feel that I'm missing out by not doing so. I spent more time on it than any other game and I never did beat it! I was too busy exploring and reading books!
Completely agree with everything you just said, just like you were reading my mind. I'm still sad how bad the sequel was, and to think I got a Wii for that game.
1. Chrono Trigger 2. Earthbound 3. Secret of Mana 4. Seiken Densetsu 3 5. Chrono Cross 6. Golden Sun 7. Mother 3 8. Zelda: Link's Awakening 9. Zelda: Ocarina of Time 10. Zelda: A Link to the Past Runner up: Pokemon Red/Blue Hope I'm not forgetting any... I don't consider Zelda an RPG per se, but it's close enough!
