For me personally i love having a large range of games at my disposal. I was a kid of the 80's so i love having...

    Atari
    Activision Anthology

Both of these have a wide range of Atari 2600 games to buy and play.

    Vectrex

Again this was from my youth, classic game console.

Just bought some game and watch games today (Pocket Games) which are a great homage to the old G&W style games.

I mean i've also got many retro compilations such as Centipede, Frogger, Galaga 30th, RallyX, Asteroids, Breakout, DigDug, Pong, Midway Arcade, Aemulda Oldies, C64 etc. Plenty of classics there.

Also the Lost Treasures of Infocom, the old classic text adventures.

If you're 51 there must be a wide range of games you've played in the last 30 years ? From the basic Atari games to the 8 bits of the 80's, 16 bit games of the 90's etc (Speedball is on iOS and many others, point n click games etc, Sonic/Sonic CD etc) to current games.

Thats why i'm surprised you've bought just 6 games this year, again not meaning to go on about your age but there must be a lot of games you've enjoyed the last 30 years. To have them all on your device so you can play these whenever you're waiting for a bus/on a train/at home with some minutes to spare etc to me is a dream.

Granted i might be the reverse of the spectrum as i have (ahem) 600 games installed on my device but i have all types of games from the late 70's (Atari, game n watch), 80's, 90's and 00's. To have so many favourites from those eras with me at all times is great, then you have great original iOS games as well, just a huge huge wide collection of games.

If i was you i would buy one of these magazines, a 'bookazine' which is a special which comes out every few months featuring tons of game reviews. Might help you choose a lot of games ?

    @Mene:
Could you share a bit more on your taste in games?
Do you like RPGs? Action? Strategy? Does a game have to do something unique or different to really draw you in?

I never played the 3 listed in your signature, so I cannot deduce anything from it (only that I don't like 9th Dawn at first glance, cause it looks too retro).

I am quite "specialised" myself, so I have to look for the rare gems as well. I rarely spend more than 20€ a month on games, simply because there aren't many that interest me.

In your first post you mention "too complex" as one pitfall.
As game examples you list Warhammer Quest, King of Dragon Pass.
Agreed on KoDP, that one is *bloody* complex, pretty much setting the highwater mark for iOS games.
Can you name a game that hit your upper level of what you are willing to tackle in terms of complexity and was still fun for you to play?

WHQ I can understand why people do not like it (repetitive, etc.).

As you listed Ascendancy, did you ever give Starbase Orion a try?

Hhmm... Bastion was quite a unique experience, in the way the story was told.
You might want to give Crow a shot, I found it quite different and interesting as well (and not complex).

Still looking at the types of games i have.

I've got a folder of classic old Fighting Fantasy books, got a folder full of RPG's. Have a folder on my ipad of modern puzzles, eg the Room. A game i didnt think i would like but i love it.

Just got so many folders of different games, thats why i'm stunned the OP just seems to have bought a couple of games this year. Then again if hes deleted KOTOR already then i dont think i can help him as deleting that is against the law ;)

But seriously theres all types of games out there, i've got folders for so many different types, thats why i'm so stunned hes only enjoyed a couple. Normally i hear the reverse, theres TOO many in the app store you dont know where to begin.
