I've been following this game for about a year now and have been part of the beta since day one, and the game is great! I'm sorry to see that you have trouble understanding the rules. I'll try to explain them as good as I can so you don't give up on this gem. The object of the game is to capture your opponents king in the top right corner. You do this by placing a tile in it. Every turn you have at least two actions. An action could be to place a new tile orthogonally adjacent to one of your existing tiles. Diagonally won't do it. An action could also be to fortify one of your tiles. Fortifying means you build a wall facing on of the for directions. A wall prevents this tile from being taken over from the side the wall faces. The last alternative for your actions is to redirect an existing fortification (wall) Your kingdom consist of all your orthogonally adjacent tiles and is easily distinguished by the color. As stated you have at least two actions per turn, but you could have three or ever four. The extra actions are called bonus-actions. You can see how many actions you have this turn by counting the colored boxes under your name. The same goes for the opponent action, look at the small boxes under respective name. Bonus-action are acquired in two ways. Either by cutting of one or more of the opponents tiles. Cutting of means placing your tiles on the opponent tiles in a way that separates one or more of the opponents tiles from its king. Separating means that they no longer are orthogonally adjacent to the rest of their kingdom. For every time you do this you get one extra move next turn (again, look at the boxes under your name). Note that you get one extra action per cut-off not one extra action per cut-off tile. The other way to gain an extra move is when your opponent takes over one of your recently placed tiles on their turn. Those "hot tiles" are market with small boxes so you can easily see which tiles you should avoid if possible. You get one extra move for each tile your opponent "copies", up to the maximum of four total actions per turn (the two regular and two bonus-actions) Lastly, the three middle tiles that look special can not be fortified, you can't protect them with walls. The basic strategy is not to give your opponent bonus-actions, in fact that is often devastating. Think ahead and make sure that your opponent can't cut you of on the next turn by placing two tiles. Use fortifications and do not rush in the beginning. Build your kingdom slowly and try to set it up in a way that gives you bonus-actions without giving them away to your opponent. Good luck and if you have any questions regarding the AI behavior please post the replay link and I'll try to explain what happened. Feel like you should have gone with something like Letterpress. Limit the amount of games you can have going at 1 time and also don't allow theme changes, then let us pay $2 for unlimited games and all the themes. With a game like this you need a lot of people playing, that won't happen when it's paid I'm afraid. The goal is to be able to play this months down the road and as a paid game I would guess the player base would tail off as the months go by. I wish this wasn't the case but this is a sad reality these days. paul-spacebears Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2014 65 0 0 Paris, France http://www.spacebears.fr #20 paul-spacebears, May 8, 2015 Thanks for the feedback guys! We really thought a lot about the business model of the game over the past year. The mobile game market is a strange and rapidly evolving beast, so we tried to make the most rational choices, the ones that felt right to us regarding this particular game. We strongly considered the Letterpress model, but here's why we didn't use it: The first reason is that Kindo is a game that looks simple but still requires a certain amount of commitment and focus to be understood and enjoyed. We thought that the freemium model might result in more downloads but from people who would churn really fast because of a lack of commitment, or a misunderstanding of what the game is about. Falling in the "hey, let's try this simple puzzle game, it's free!" category would have been a disaster for everybody. Maybe a premium model would get us fewer downloads but hopefully from people more willing to make this effort. And we thought that a smaller, stronger, more engaged core of players would be more valuable. They would drive the competitive side of the game, and would also provide better word of mouth, or "organic growth" as they say. As with most things in Kindo, we thought that we would have to fight on quality instead of quantity, which is a battle we couldn't have won, or even afford to fight. We believe that it makes the whole experience, the gameplay, the visuals, the community, more consistent, in a "Less is More" kind of way The other reason is that we've seen Apple start promoting and supporting premium apps again over the past year. We thought that having an iOS look and feel and a premium model would increase our chances to be featured, as we were going to be exclusive to iOS anyway (at least for a while), for technical reasons. We had the devices, the skills and the online game feature on Game Center was a low hanging fruit. As you can see, our "strategy" was at best an educated guess! We'll see how this goes. So far it seems to be working, as the game is being featured in the Best New Games category, but it's maybe not for any of those reasons in particular, or this exact combination, who knows! Anyway, we're definitely not ruling out any option and we might adapt the business model depending on the platform, the feedback of our community (you!) Hope it helps shed some light on the business strategy! Let me know what you think and if you have any more questions on this topic, feel free to ask!
