Gloomy Hollow is a good game, but there are times i blame the controls for not doing what i intend my character to do. It just happens sometimes, but i think they shouldve just gone full dual stick, having a secondary aiming/shooting vstick.

Yeah, I didn't really click with the joystick controls - but once I switched to the tap to move scheme (with 'old-school' enabled because the character moves towards the enemy you tap on if it's not enabled) - it really started to click with me.

I'm usually not someone who likes tap to move games, but I'm enjoying this one a lot more because of it here...

Though, I would prefer a bug free, responsive joystick and another stick for shooting (making it a dual-stick shooter)...

I'd probably be thinking the same thing if I still had a 3GS (well, I'd acknowledge that it's a great week, but a lousy week for 3GS owners).

Up until this week, it seemed like it was a miracle that most games still ran on the old bugger. But things hit the fan this week with almost all the good releases requiring at least an iPhone 4.

That pushed me to figure out how I could upgrade earlier (taking my son's upgrade ;) ). Can't get Xcom right now but it'll be on my radar. But Spiral is fantastic.

Added Monsters Invade Oz to the original post because some people were raving about it.

For me, one good game means it's not a lousy week. Whirl the Squirrel runs fine on my 3GS (so far at least). I haven't played it long enough, but bought it based on the recommendations in this thread (thanks!), and so far it seems like a really solid game.

But yeah, times are changing quickly now. My iPad 1 also seems almost obsolete for gaming. I guess I'll go back to reading ebooks - that's the main reason I got the iPad in the first place. Had no idea there were so many great games for it :)

[edit]This is a nomination for Whirl the Squirrel

This may be one of the best weeks in recent memory. There's literally something for every iOS gamer out this week. It's honestly going to be pretty interesting to see which game could possibly win GOTW.
