Just want some impressions skylined87 Well-Known Member Nov 9, 2014 457 0 16 #10 skylined87, Jun 9, 2016 Overall, this is a pretty fun and well polished game. At first, I just kept getting killed, but once I got the hang of it, I had a lot of fun. The pixel graphics are top notch, it is very clear that a lot of love and time went into making it. So far I have been able to make it to stage 4, and it was not easy. You control your gladiator with a joystick on the left side, and you attack with a button on the right side of the screen. You face an endless horde of opponents in each level until you die, with a specified number of kills in order to unlock the next level, and a number of kills to unlock a new piece of equipment. Your starting weapon is a sword, but after a killstreak you are awarded with a flail, which bashes through any opponent with ease. When using the sword, most attacks will be deflected by your opponents until you hit them at the right moment and kill them. Some opponents have armor, and you will need to hit them a few times to knock their armor off and expose a weak point. Most of the time I am able to win by just frantically trying to attack as quick as possible, but that does not always work. I am still trying to work out a better strategy, but so far this is the only way I have been able to advance. You can also perform a sort of barrel roll in which you are invincible for a short moment. So far I am just seeing 8 different arenas to fight in, but they are each very unique and fun to play. Hope to see more in an update sometime hopefully? Fingers crossed. As I said before, this game has had a lot of effort put into it, and I can't wait to dig deeper into this little gem. I definitely recommend it you are on the fence. ZS77 Well-Known Member May 8, 2015 566 2 18 #11 ZS77, Jun 9, 2016 I loved the pixel art graphics and the general polish and presentation is good. The heavy crunching rock is pretty cool too at first - but grates after a while. IMO, the controls are what let the whole thing down. It's easy enough to pull off horizontal and vertical slashes but diagonals are a problem - and I'm finding they're fairly essential for making crucial precision kills when the opponent is vulnerable after their attack. On the ground, diagonals register fairly easily but it appears less so when in the air. Tried several times but rarely managed to pull off a diagonal slice with any ease. More often than not, it results in the horizontal/vertical slash - which leads to aimless 'back and forth' across the screen trying hopelessly to line up your shot. Shame as it could be fun with a more fluid/analogue control scheme - as it stands, it's an 8-way joystick with only 4-ways working 80% of the time. Also, am I missing something to do with the evasive rolls on the ground - I'm pulling and holding diagonally downward (red directional arrow confirms this) as the tutorial shows but I'm not rolling away. All in all, moderately fun but limited lifespan unless you're in to your high score chasing/endless runner type affairs - and only if you manage to get to grips with the controls better than I did. Sorry Devs, nice try but needs more fine tuning I think. lonestarcarper Active Member Nov 27, 2015 25 0 0 #12 lonestarcarper, Jun 9, 2016 Looks cool I bought it will try it this evening Brawwwn Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2015 155 0 0 #13 Brawwwn, Jun 10, 2016 What an original title. I been working on a new computer company called Microsoft what you guys think? I started working on it before Bill so Imma just release it and slap a trademark on it, cool? Colin Lane seems like a chill guy so I'm sure this isn't a big deal but it seems a bit lowbrow to me. Hey in a world where games like Crossy Pants Mr. Road Jump Hexagon Disney Temple Jog come out I guess this kind of stuff is pretty common. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,064 1,340 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #14 metalcasket, Jun 10, 2016 Last edited: Jun 10, 2016 Unfortunately, as much as I love Mr. Lane, these guys here have every right to call this Epic Flail...and this is proof: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/05/29/epic-flail-free/ EDIT: For clarification, this Epic Flail hasn't only been worked on since 2014, it has existed as a real game (albeit on a different platform...and perhaps a demo?) before Colin's version. noxus Well-Known Member Patreon Indie Oct 5, 2014 47 0 0 Noxus Ltd London, United Kingdom http://www.nox.us #15 noxus, Jun 10, 2016 Relax man, you have no reason to be angry.
