I am desperate for some new ideas... perhaps games that I've missed from the past?

Here are my favorites last 2-3 years to give sense of what I like:

    Limbo
    Penumbear
    World of Goo
Bean's Quest (just found this few weeks ago and loved it)
    Beyond Ynth
    Mikey (all)
    Rolando (all)
    Rayman (all)
    Icebreaker
    Mimpi

Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

I should add... not a huge fan of the Sonic/Cordy type of platformers...

Shadow Blade, Mos Speedrun, Prince of Persia 2, Badland, and Type:Rider are all excellent ones I've played recently...

    Thanks.

Yes, I enjoyed Shadow Blade and Type:Rider (although not as much as the hype)

I will check out some of the others you listed.

They all happen to support MFi game controllers, which is how I played them - I know Type:Rider was supposed to be somewhat hard to control using touch. The others are probably better. Badland isn't a traditional platformer, but it's a solid side scroller that Apple gave Game of the Year

No mention of Icycle. Sad :(

Anyways, in addition to those already mentioned:

    Icycle
    One Tap Hero
    Mutant Mudds
Prince of Persia Shadow and the Flame
    Freedom Fall
    Nihilumbra
    Night Sky

Also, these deserve to be mentioned:

This list is older and could use a good update, but it may still be valuable for you:

I have every game OP mentioned, except one (limbo) because u have a bunch of limbo clones so can't be bothered to fork out money for it.

    Anywho,

    I recommend-

    Platformers-

    Super splatform -

You loved beans quest, so I guarantee you'll love this. Like beans, you auto bounce on the spot, and try to complete the level with least amount of bounces. Probably my favourite iOS platformer of all time. Enjoyed every second of this game and was sad after I 100%'ed it.

Bubble pig- it has the same bouncing mechanism as splatform and beans quest, so if you're a fan of auto bouncers, give it a go. I like it, but it's not my favourite.

Kid tripp- I also enjoyed this so much, it's hard to tell which I love more, splatform or Tripp, both are amazing and worth downloading.
Kid tripp feels like authentic old school sega games.. That difficulty, foot stomping, but ever so satisfying rage when you die, but bliss when you complete the level. It's wonderful.

Baby lava bounce- a fun little free game that's a cross between platforming and arcade.. I love to pick this up when I have 30 seconds spare.

Super hexagon - extremely addictive, again, if you're a fan of old school sega, you'll love it.

    Puzzle games-

    Little inferno

    Badlands

I would go for Limbo for sure, its a classic and clones dont come close to it

Badland is a very good game but its not a platformer.

Shame you dont like Cordy/Sonic style games, one of my favourites is Storm in a Teacup, great graphics and levels, its excellent.

PDA Games is a very good classic platformer, single screen action, tons of levels, plays so well

I don't think Storm in a Teacup is very Sonic like at all, definitely check that out (there's a lite version). Also Bring Me Sandwiches, that's one of my favorite iOS games ever.
Bubble Pig is a bit more forgiving than Beans Quest and Super Splatform (at least for just finishing the game). I like it a lot.
Also check out Polara and Bobbing (both auto running, like the Rayman iOS games). They both have free versions.
Commander Pixman is a good platformer of the "short levels die often" variety, and also has a free version.

One of my all time favorites is Archibald's Adventures.

Wish they'd (Rake in the Grass) come out with a sequel.

Thank you all very much... a lot of great suggestions. I apologize for not mentioning "Icycle" in my initial post - finished that last week and loved it.

I will definitely be buying a bunch of these in next week or so. List looks great.

Thanks for these suggestions. Some of them were exactly what I was looking for...

LOVED Mutant Mudds (just finished all the levels + grandma levels)
Splatform was also tremendous, and finished that one too (rainbows and all)

    Going to try some more...

Kale in Dinoland is a great 'homage' to old Gameboy games, a good tough platformer which looks great.

Gunman Clive isnt bad at all, nice looking game.

Commander Pixman is a nice basic Atari 2600 style platformer

The platformers from Orange Pixel are brilliant..

    Meganoid I and II
INC - A very underated game
Stardash - A brilliant Gameboy style looking game
Roboto - A great looking platformer
Little Acorns - VERY underated, a great platformer
Fancy Pants - Not bad at all
Run Kitty Run - Worth picking up
Kid Vector - Nice vector based platformer
Paper Monsters - An iOS classic
Jazz - Trumps Journey - A great looking game
MANOS - A good NES style game
    League of Evil 1 2 and 3 - A great trilogy
Polyroll/Clash Force - 2 nice retro style games, NOTE they dont work on iOS7 which is very frustrating though
Rico - PLEASE try this, minimalistic graphics but a great storyline and lots of levels
Jack and the Creepy Castle - Reminds me of the classic 8 bit series of Sorcery games
The Older Brothers - Great looking game, controls are much improved, caused quite a long thread here at TA !

Ava's Quest is a recent addition to the genre and it's pretty good.

Good list. I'll add: Food Run by the same dev of Impossible Road. Don't let the open, colorful graphics fool you...
