They don't require it, but you can't do much without paying for things. That's why I gave up. mrbiggles Well-Known Member Jul 3, 2012 3,691 0 0 Like retired USA #5 mrbiggles, Jan 13, 2013 ah iap games suck! would rather pay some cash for full game and they can keep one version (free w/ads or iaps) like this one. repapermunky Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 624 0 0 #6 repapermunky, Jan 13, 2013 Yeah exactly. And there is a free version of this game the only difference (basically) is that you get your own home in the full version, which you can purchase in the free version anyway. The whole thing is a scam if you ask me. And I spent a good amount of time playing it. Not worth it, honestly. Go play Growtopia instead. bomber Well-Known Member Nov 9, 2008 942 1 0 #7 bomber, Jan 15, 2013 Well in the free version you are limited to 10 looks (for your head), with the Classic+ version you get 1000+ looks. It's a social online game, you don't have to spend anything. The in-app purchases are mainly for customization. I'm not sure where there is "scam" x-x Psiufoxx Well-Known Member May 25, 2011 421 0 16 sustainability consulting paris (yeah, the one in france) #8 Psiufoxx, Jan 15, 2013 I'm too old to sink endless time into these games anymore... /endrant nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #9 nightc1, Jan 15, 2013 I'm not here to bash the dev of this game, but Growtopia has been a huge hit with my kids since I told them about it. Is there a paywall or massively huge insurmountable by anyone but the insane grind? If it's playable without the IAP (and y'all know by now I don't spend money on IAP) then I might check it out. repapermunky Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 624 0 0 #10 repapermunky, Jan 16, 2013 It's funny because of course bomber is part of the company so he'll try to make them look good. First of all horses are one thing that would take a ridiculous amount of time to save up for so that's one must pay. It simply could have been done better and that would have made the game hold my interest much longer. Secondly, tranformations and normal items all USUALLY make you buy Iaps for a normal amount of time to get them. The Iaps are in such a way that you can spend one amount of money at the highest rate and still not get all that you need to enjoy the game. This leads to the good part of the game which is the constant updates. They have been awesome. I apologize for the wall of text, but I had to let my opinion out. @nightc1 I think you should lieave your kids on Growtopia for a number of reasons including language filter and, truly, no paywall, if you have the least bit of interest in it. I cannot recommend it highly enough, as I am enjoying it so much! bomber Well-Known Member Nov 9, 2008 942 1 0 #11 bomber, Jan 16, 2013 Well it's true that I'm biased since I'm the developer x-x The game is celebrating its 15th birthday tomorrow (started on Web/PC), so I don't like to hear when someone is speaking of it as "scam". I recommend blocking the in-app purchases in the iOS settings or use separate accounts for the kids and add iTunes gift cards, my sister is doing that for her children. Most of the employees seem to be inexperienced children, way under 18 even (we are talking around 12...) which is quite bad considering that they are dealing with paying customers at their whim and tend not to have any sence of perspective. Age and inexperience each on their own is not a bad thing but put them together and you have an almighty mess. This game is the biggest dissapointment in all the years of IOS gaming for me. That wasn't a wall of text... read below. Ha. Sorry if that was my kids. All three of them have had a blast with that game even with all the griefing (destroying other peoples creations that aren't locked). They've been both good and evil which is pretty much the core of what the multiplayer is all about. That's silly. My kids don't have their iPods authorized on my account to make Purchases in the first place but they can download (with iOS 6, this didn't work in 5 without typing in the password) anything that I own from the appstore by hitting the install button since I put my info in their devices. Even if they had the password it would tell them their device is not authorized on the account to purchase anything that cost money. This is extra good for me as a parent because they have to come to me about any game they want that I haven't already added to the account. Even for Free stuff. But nicely on free stuff I can just put the password in and go but with pay stuff I have to purchase it on my phone or in itunes on my pc (and they don't have the password). That was one of the HUGE mega pluses of converting my family over from traditional handhelds to iOS devices (even before iOS6). One time purchases (unlike DSi/3DS where everyone needs their own copy) and control over which devices have authority to spend real money. Control over what apps my kids can get helps me keep on top of this since everything has to go through me first. I considered the Kindle Fire since they enjoy playing my father-in-laws but the account structure on that is seriously messed up since you have to have a credit card on the account and have one click purchasing turned on to even get free books and stuff. So it's a bit of a mess in my experience. Maybe it's changed? Either way, they lost me to an overall better designed service. repapermunky Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 624 0 0 #17 repapermunky, Jan 16, 2013 Listen, bomber: The bottom line is that the admins are terrible and there is a huge lack of control in the game. It's just chaotic and not enjoyable. You make it too hard to obtain anything without Iap and it gets ridiculous. I'm not even going to argue with you, i'm done. Your game is an upset. We don't force people to create accounts, but this creates problem when people have broken devices or so and forgot to create an account because they thought it's not really necessary. In that case you need to contact [email protected]. We are replying to hundreds of e-mails each day since we have a quite big community now. We try to resolve all problems although it's not always simple, people try to recover old data but here are also scammers so we need to somehow verify that it's the same player. Please contact [email protected] for this. Sorry for any problems caused by this.
