Crex and LBG are bang on the money here; Skies of Glory is not only a great WWII game, it's a top iOS game full stop. In fact, its probaby the best WW based game on the entire App Store and would comfortably sit in the top 20 of my favourite iOS games of all time. I got my first ever iDevice (an iPhone 3GS), in February 2010 and SoG was the very first iPhone game that I fell in love with. It was one of those rare games when you know you're playing something very special within 2 minutes of playing it. Ahh, you never forget your first love huh!?

I thought it was alright. It would be a lot better if there was a stronger campaign mode and retina display. And I'd rather they just charge £5.99 for the game with all the DLC planes included. It's a rip-off paying £1.19 for each plane.

Here's a few for you to be getting on with. Admittedly, not all of the games I've listed below are quite from the WWI and WWII era's, but I've split them into two lists (period and contemporary). Either way, they're all great 'War Games' nonetheless:

    (Period WWI & WWII Games):

Skies of Glory: Battle of Britain
    1951 World War One
    SkySmash 1918
    AirAttack
    Brothers in Arms
Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front
    Call of Duty: WaW: Zombies
    Wolfenstein 3D Classic
Air Battle of Britain (although I haven't played this one)

    (Contemporary, Modern Day War Games):

    Modern Combat: Sandstorm
    Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus
    Battlefield 2: Bad Company
    Great Tank War
    Assault Commando
    Guerrilla Bob
    Trenches

Skies of Glory, 1951 WWI, Call of Duty and Modern Combat 2 in particular are*very, very good.

Whichever you opt for, have fun!

I agree entirely buddy. I opted for the paid version of*Skies of Glory, which was a far from cheap £3.99/$6.99 if memory serves.

I can't stand so/called 'freemium' games - in my opinion, there's no better way to ruin a good game (iAds) and rip punters off (IAP's) all in one go! Glu are one of many publishers that are particularly guilty of having an overly excessive ratio of*freemium*games in their line-up, which really put me off of some otherwise pretty decent games. Gun Bros is just one of their titles where the undesirable combo of iAds/IAP ruined an otherwise really nice twin-stick. Such a shame huh?

Even the paid version of Skies of Glory borderred on being something of a rip-off. I too would certainly prefer to just pay a one-off £4.99 or £5.99 and have done with it. I'm still getting cheeky push messages from the über-greedy SGN, prompting me to buy multiple IAP's at £1.19 a pop!

Other than that, it's a top period dogfight delight.
