    Hi there!

After almost a year in development, I'm thrilled to announce that Don't Run With a Plasma Sword is getting close to release. The beta should be starting within a few weeks, so we'll soon be looking for people to try out the game and help us come up with the final tweaks of the game :D.

The game is a runner (Endless and Story Modes) with a humoristic and retro-futuristic direction. The objective is to obtain one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating runners on the app store. In order to achieve that, we went for tons of variety on gameplay configurations and controls more elaborated than the average runner.

Here's the first gameplay preview videos of the game being released:

    Boss Battles Preview

    Mother ship Endless Level (Hard)
    [hqyoutube]QEnuxBW-Suo[/hqyoutube]

    City Endless Level (Easy)
    [hqyoutube]vuBz1Y6ZoTU[/hqyoutube]

Of course we'd like to gather a first wave of comments and/or suggestions, as many as possible, in order to make the best possible game for the players community.

Well, the first comment I have is that this game looks amazing! Btw, is the music in the trailer, in the game?

Thanks :D. Don't hesitate if you have more questions about the game. I'll post the list of planned featured later on but I can also answer questions as they come.

The music was made as an in-game music preview for one of the levels. So yeah it should make its way in game, although perhaps in a modified version.

I love the name as well. My only concern is that it my take too long to get a hang of the game judging from the video.

Yeah I won't deny that, it is hard :D. The game is kinda designed to be breathtaking and produces gameplay sessions of 30 secs-to 3 mins in endless mode.

That said, this is the 3rd endless level of the game. The first 2 levels are easier. The game starts much easier, and then every game you obtain XP points that you can spend on new skills, like health, dash, dive, double jump, etc, which in turns help you survive for a longer period of time.

Still, during beta we'll gather comments to make sure that the game starts as smootly as possible for new players.

In story mode, the games have a tendency to be longer though, so it is often possible to unlock several sub-level sections in a row.

Yeah I think i'll post a video of the first level, so people get a better idea about the progression of difficuly.

Like I said the game gets much harder as it goes, but it is possible to unlock a bunch of skills to help, so the average game length almost tend to stay the same from one level to the other.

I should also say that I look a bit clumsy in the recorded game, because I had to play from the simulator instead of the device to produce the video. I can usually survive for more than 3 mins :p

    - Shield (protects against 1 collision)
    - Heath recovery
    - Slower pace
    - Faster pace
    - Bronze, Silver, Gold XP bonuses

There's 4 endless mode, from easy to expert. There's also 4 story mode levels made of a series of sections. Each section has to be unlocked 1 by 1 in order to complete the level.

While the maps generation is random in endless mode, it is completely fixed in story mode, so one can sorta 'learn' the sections.

At the end of each story mode level, there will be a unique boss fight. Here's a preview for one of them:

    Haha thanks :)

We had a few artists working on the game, but here's some more assets that he made. Those are the frames which are being used for the comics book style introduction:

Nice work with this game, really like the artwork. When I read the title I thought this was gonna have energy swords like Halo's lol.

I just added the list of the main features planned for the release at the beginning of this thread.

Tomorrow i'll try to include another gameplay video.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

We feel that it is also important to mention that no actual Aliens were harmed during the making of the video.

The title is sick, and I like the Star Wars premise, but I'm not a big fan of the art.

Maybe this is already planned, but some things to think about are a boss rush mode, and putting bosses in their respective levels in endless mode (showing up from time to time and you don't gain distance until they're beaten) to mix up the gameplay a little. Bonus points if the bosses actually become progressively harder versions of themselves over time.
