Hi guys, We are super happy to finally being able to announce Frontline to you. Has been a long way coming. More info will be coming along incl a first trailer soon (weeks). Some bonus info just for you at this point in time. Game is turn based modern warfare. Take Call of Duty and put it into a TBS setting - mix in some RPG elements, configurability, various weapon and skill trees and voila. Each unit in your squad can be customized to hold 2 proficiencies that you can freely pick from e.g. SMG, close quarters combat, sniper, medic etc. And each proficiency has its own weapon tree, a unique skill tree with passive/active skills and so on. And oh - did we mention that there is coop async multiplayer as well as versus + single player? Cross platform? As said - we will get you more info through the next weeks. And if you should be at gamescom next week, feel free to drop by and catch me at our booth in business hall 4.2, booth #J 045. You will be able to see and play the game. Game status itself - few weeks of hitting the keyboard left, then testing and various integrations with 3rd party SDK etc. Release dates coming up as soon as possible. Keep an eye here and we will keep you up to date. /Thomas
When I first read about the inclusion of multiplayer, I assumed it would be asynchronous (little to no reason not to make turn-based multiplayer for iOS async), but reading about cross-platform multiplayer has raised my doubts. I sincerely hope that in spite of the cross-platofrm (which is a great feature), there will be an iOS-specific async multiplayer mode. The difference between asynchronous and contiguous, synchronous multiplayer is not just one minor convenience, but a defining, sometimes monumental difference for those of us who simply cannot find the time for extended (or even a few minutes long) gameplay sessions, or who prefer the stability and flexibility async brings (especially if the game plays like a synchronous multiplayer game until one player leaves, which means that there is no downside to the async mechanics, even for players who only play contiguous sessions).
Definitely async - and there is even what we call offline async. When the game contacts the server it will sync with the server for latest game state and upload/download the individual games. So you can have multiple games going on at the same time - think WordFeud. This means that you can play the single player game, then your buddy puts up his turn for another game you are playing with him - you switch to that game, take your turn, upload that (automagic) and return to your single player game to continue that. The offline part comes into play by allowing you to take turns in the games that await your next move without being online. Like in a bus or train. Then when you get home it uploads and notifies your opponent. And yes - it has very capable AI so you are not contricted to multiplayer games only /Thomas
There was a pretty in-depth preview of this game in Pocket Tactics a couple of months ago: http://pockettactics.com/2012/08/09/first-look-frontline-tactics/
We also had a preview running here: http://www.gamezone.com/products/frontline-tactics/previews/frontline-tactics-hands-on-preview
No Android launch - we currently have no plans for Android other than "wait and see". iOS and PC/Mac ultra soon. (Just need to confirm the dates tonight before announcing things publically) /T
Wow, this is great news! Loved Undead Rising, and this sounds even better. Here's hoping its out this week, as it's snowing and I need something to distract me from winter.
